Someone is grouchy [x-posted]
You would have me believe that you have intentions for me just because you are re-watching the final chapters of my story? Be not a fool. I have no time for such flights of fancy. Go pester Inuyasha if you truly wish to have a plaything.

My, my you are remarkable.

[He gives his father a slight look of disgust before continuing]
I will never understand why you took up with a mortal.
[Says the big, scary demon who chose to save and protect a little mortal girl - no hypocrisy here]
no subject
(This has nothing to do with being a full-demon or a half-demon...to him.)
Have you ever felt love?
no subject
What do you even do when you're not being a pain, anyway?

[There's just a little bit(okay, a lot) of proper shock sinking in at seeing the old man actually talk to him. So much so that he kind of has to reach forward and.. touch him. With his hand. Hand on armor. Just to be sure he's real. He leans forward, too, to get a good whiff of his scent.]
[Well, it doesn't look like there's any trickery he can tell, so.. he crosses his arms like that didn't just happen.]
I can take care of myself. I don't need his help.
no subject
I do not give him the order because I fear you weak. (Quite the opposite.) He is your brother - your only family. It is a waste to spend your time in combat.
no subject
And make me have to patch him and you up? No, thank you.

[He jerks a thumb at Sesshomaru's general direction like he isn't privy to this exact conversation.]
.. I don't know - Unbearable? Unbearable doesn't really begin to cover it.

[You know, mating seasons are a thing for pure demons.]

[He isn't actually sure if Sesshomaru lived in a castle. He just seemed like the pompous asshole that would.]
Maybe Totosai mentioned her at one point, I don't remember.
((ooc: want to continue on your post to avoid flooding this one? _(:3」∠)_ ))

[The word is clipped. There is no doubt that Sesshomaru is older and more experienced than his little brother. Still - did that mean had to use his advantages to assist Inuyasha?]
Felt love?
[Ah, yes, that annoying habit Sesshomaru has of parroting a question back when he is trying to avoid answering.]
I have not.
[A keen father should be able to tell that Sesshomaru is lying. What of Rin and all he had gone through to save her so many times? What of his compassion for Kagura? Perhaps Sesshomaru would never know the feelings his father had held for Izayoi but he did know love and compassion - the fact that Sesshomaru can wield Tenseiga is proof enough of this.]

Had to jump in. xD

Besides, his sons can aid one another to their fullest potential.)
You treat it as something to disdain. (But he knows his eldest son - he also knows the sword at Sesshomaru's side.) Draw Tenseiga.
(The sword's light will be answer enough.)
no subject
He draws Teneiga and the blade glows with a white/blue light. The sword recognizes its old master and is happy to be reunited with him.]

It is content to serve you. You understand.

He re-sheaths Tenseiga.]
Meidō Zangetsuha has returned to Tessaiga.

And so it has been used as such.
[At the end of the day, all Sesshomaru had ever wanted was to be a great demon like his father. The fact that this perfect demon could father a half-breed like Inuyasha had once left Sesshomaru conflicted. Now, though - he understood - somewhat. Mortals and weaker demons were worth protection because they still pressed forward in spite of their weakness. That was something to be admired not pitied.]
no subject
Who have you saved? (He is curious who has stirred Sesshomaru's heart so.) Do you know the original reason for crafting the Tessaiga?
(It all comes full circle. The powerful sword is not somehow immune or above saving life - or protecting life.)
no subject
[He would never say that Inuyasha injured him and, in fairness, it really had been the sword and not Inuyasha's own strength or power.]
She was killed by wolves. The sword desired to save her. So I used it to do so.
[No. Of course Sesshomaru would never say that he desired to save Rin but the fact that Tenseiga reacted was proof enough that Sesshomaru had wished to save the little girl for she had shown him kindness with no expectation of gratitude or reward.]
I would say for power but knowing you it would be for something more than that.
no subject
(A small smile follows and he looks almost...proud.)
A brave child. The Tenseiga may have prompted you, Sesshomaru, yet you are the one who wielded it in that manner. You are the reason it lives. A sword in the wrong hands can perish and lose all of its might.
(The Tessaiga is especially complicated in that respect. It would have come close to perishing - if not outright ceasing to have any power at all - in Sesshomaru's hands. In the end, it had nothing to do with love or trust, but the nature of the blade and the nature of the intended wielder.)
I had plenty of power. My claws, my teeth would have sent my enemies to the Underworld well enough. But there was one I needed to protect.
Think what you will of Izayoi, but she is the reason Tessaiga exists.

[Oh, yes, Father - you did your work well. It has taken a long time but Sesshomaru understands now why he was not allowed to wield Tessaiga. He had not been worthy. He had been immature. Inuyasha had also been immature - still was - but he had lacked the innate ability to use the sword to its full potential. Inuyasha had to work and train for each power Tessaiga held to be revealed to him. Sesshomaru would not have had to work for any of it - he would not have been forced to understand the terrible power the sword had and therefore would have used it recklessly. He would not have used it to protect but for his own thirst for power. That is why he had to learn to use Tenseiga instead.
Tenseiga's powers were something he had to train and work to unlock and in doing so he learned what he had lacked so long ago - understanding of how precious life was. One had to understand those who were mortal, who were weaker in order to be mature enough to use destructive powers in a proper way. There were times for vengeance and times for mercy and the true warrior and lord needed to understand the difference and act on those differences.
That was the secret of true power and the secret to being a mighty demon.]
Yes. She is. She was annoying at first with how persistent she was. But... she was an orphan. I suppose she was used to surviving on her own. Perhaps that is where her strength comes from.
[It is obvious that Sesshomaru admires Rin at least slightly for her boldness in the face of a very cruel world. She is so small and yet so strong. That is someone worth protecting.]
I know you did, Father.
[He gives a rare, true smile - very small of course.]
Inuyasha and you have much in common. I don't know if that gives you any kind of peace of mind but it is the truth.
[Of course, Sesshomaru also has a lot in common with his father but he isn't one to admit it - just yet.]

[At least when he sleeps in a tree he enjoys himself.]

[He's just being a shit now.]

Could be worse. You could be stuck with Jaken, instead.

He would have been no more than a babe when it was hidden. (A newborn in truth.
Inu no Taisho smiles to himself at the description of Rin.) Those who encounter strife early are often stronger for it. Though it is a shame a child must carry such a burden.
(That smile! It does his heart good to see it.)
You will find that you and I have much in common too.

A fruitless endeavor.
