Mun.

Do you honestly think that I am incapable of watching after Aibou's shop while he's away.

I was once Pharaoh of Egypt, how hard could it be to run a Game Shop?

Nothing will happen. I swear it.

I expect you shall find it quite the challenge, if you plan to run a business dressed as that.

And good heavens, whatever do you mean by pharoah? You haven't been listening to those charlatans, have you? Far too many poor souls have been taken in by their parlor tricks and talk of Egyptian past lives.

[In Amelia's experience, men tended to suffer from a certain kind of blindness when it came to small things.] Do try to have a mind for the details then. It is the little details that can sink or swim a business.

[She pauses. ]

It has always been my opinion that those dime novels of mummies and curses are far too sensationalist for young minds. Even those rare examples that have done more research than an afternoon spent at the British Museum.

[Yes, yes she is. Amelia was well into her mid-thirties by this point (not that she would ever admit to it out loud), and was mother to an unfortunately precocious son. Atem appeared to be only a few years older than Ramses.

Amelia shakes her head.]

Hoaxes, most of them. Some of them convincing, granted. There are none so creative as one who's livelihood depends on illusion.

[Although there were times.... At times of danger Amelia still dreamed of Abdullah, who had died in her defense years ago. And there were other times... But it was not something that an Edwardian lady such as Amelia would admit to anyone.]

[ at last. a mundane with some sense. or at least, more than what his own can attest to. it almost brings a smile to his face.

but only almost.
]

Well... weren't exactly any good at ruling Egypt either, now, were we, Great Pharaoh? H-Heh heh heh... after all... not only did you let a single thief get away from you more times than you could possibly have liked... but you even allowed him to start a war with your dynasty... one that would cost you far more than just the price you had set on his head... [ and unbeknownst to bakura for the time being, span thousands of years, at that. ] One more like him and that game shop will be done for. H-ha ha ha! Too bad for your aibou... [ he says, with the same mocking tone as "Great Pharaoh" ] maybe he ought to take a leaf or two out of your mundane's book instead of wasting his time - or his faith, for that matter... on someone like you!

[ as if bakura would fare any better. what a drama queen. ]

[ i did what i had to do in order to protect my kingdom. bakura grits his teeth. how many more times is he going to have to hear that tired, old line from this damned dynasty? honestly. (until the day he offs the lot of them, bakura supposes. too bad his mundane and something about this place are holding him back from doing anything more than mild - depending on one's definition of mild, anyway - harassment.) ]

H-Ha ha ha! Or else what, O Pharaoh? You and your priests will pass judgment on the Great Bakura? [ goodness, this dynasty sure likes to repeat itself a lot. ] Don't make me laugh. Your judgment is about as good as that talk of yours about having the both of us sealed away... in other words, not at all! [ yeah, his mundane has been holding off on telling him how things end for now. ] And it's about to stumble still more down the hill than even that... h-heh heh heh... because, you see... you'll be one priest short soon enough... but go on thinking that it will somehow frighten me into doing what you say if you like!
