Well yeah, I guess I'm a little sad too that Tanis never showed up. But it's okay, right? -because that means he's not stuck in the city with everyone else, which is good. And that way I don't have to worry about them getting into trouble!

...although it makes it kind of difficult trying to see that they don't get into trouble I'm not there with them, back home. [Sigh.] Oh well.

At least I'll have a lot of exciting stories to tell them when I get home! ...when...ever that is, anyway.

...Tasslehoff. I didn't expect to see you. [And he doesn't sound terribly happy about it.]

-Raistlin?! Is that you? -well of course it is, but well, I didn't expect to see you! [He on the other hand looks absolutely ecstatic. Go figure.]

No, I wouldn't expect you would. When did you see me last? [It was important, after all, to verify how the timelines meshed up.]

When? Well, that's easy! It was after the Dark Queen was driven off, and all the evil dragons went away too! Oh, and then you saved me so I didn't die like I did in that weird dream we had in the forest- but anyway, I'm sure you remember what I'm talking about, right?

I recall something along those lines happening, yes, though it feels like such a long time ago now.

Oh, really? Well I guess even for me it's been some months now, at least. I've been stuck at this city where there's no sun, so it's very difficult trying to figure out how much time has passed. But my friend taught me how to count the hours on the clock-thing!

But even so, it hasn't been that long ago!

I've been trapped on a ship that travels between worlds. Though my own perception of time is similarly distorted, I'm fairly certain it's been years.

[His eyes just about light up at that.]

Wow!! Between worlds?? Aw, I wish I coulda been stuck on something like that! The city brings people from different worlds rather than send them to other places, so I only get to hear about them from other people. Oh, but I'd really love to go visit the elves from this place called Middle Earth. Have you heard of it? It sounds truly wonderful! All the elves I've met from there are very nice!

No, I haven't. I haven't seen any worlds with elves, in fact. I've found the worlds we visited to be extremely unpleasant.

No elves? None at all? Oh. -Unpleasant? [That only manages to take his curiosity down about a notch.] Why's that?

We visit places where the air is so unclean that I need a mask to breathe, and in one place they believed that my eyes somehow belonged to them and that it was their duty to reclaim them. Furthermore...they have found a way to bind my power.

Oh... That doesn't sound very pleasant at all. [Blink.] -what, you don't mean they tried to take your eyes from you, right? And does that mean you can't use your magic? How did they manage that?

Tried? They did a bit more than try, fortunately the ship has a strange ability to restore people to their previous state when it shouldn't be possible.

And I don't know.

Then they did?!? ....oh. That...kind of sounds like how the city is. I guess people don't die permanently around there. They come back after some time- at least that's what I was told, anyway...

That's no good. So...are any of our friends there with you, at least? Maybe Tanis, or Caramon? Or maybe even Laurana or Tika?

Yes, in that the City sounds similar to the Barge.

No, but I need none of them. I will survive on my own.

Is it the same over there, then? How strange. I'm not sure I like it all that much. The girl I talked to didn't seem to care very much that she'd killed someone because she knew they'd come back. It was terrible!

Oh, well... Don't you miss them at all, at least?

And I do find the whole matter of the dead returning quite inconvenient at times.

No. [Actually, he sometimes does, but he won't admit to it.]

Well...I guess. I thought I was dead too, at first. Oh, but that's different, because everyone wakes up in the morgue- which is apparently where they keep dead people. It was a little confusing.

....ah... [He wonders if he's surprised at that response though.]

[Oh, it's a kender. She's never dealt with a live one before.]

Sometimes people from the same world aren't from the same point in time here. For me, it's 390 AC, and you... you died in 383. I've met a gold dragon that died thousands of years ago, too.

So I've heard! I get the feeling Raistlin isn't from the same time I am either, but he didn't really say anything specific-

[He gapes, trying to work that out in his head.]

W-wow.... So. That's a really long time between you and me then, isn't it? Last I checked, it was 353 AC.

...um. [He scratches his head.] Well, this is kind of awkward.

-oh, no- it's... Well okay, it is kind of depressing to hear that you're dead later on- not unexpected, of course! I sure hope I had a lot of interesting experiences and things, but um...
