Canon is Need For Speed. A talk before Season 2.

Here we are. This time tomorrow, I'm going to be screaming around the track at St. Petersburg while you sit back with your coffee and probably flip off Rossi. But as of 9am tomorrow it's race season for you and me for another six and a half months. You ready?

I know you've been writing a lot about how I feel at the idea of having to defend the IndyCar championship. But I'm prepared for this. I've been driving all off-season. I'm working with the best crew in the business for the best team in the business. I'm confident that we can do this or at least give them hell. Which is all we can try to do any year. And if someone stops playing with me because I don't win, then screw them.

If there's anything on my mind it's who's going to be by my side as we do this. Last season I had Michael but I know he's enjoying well deserved retirement. I haven't talked to John yet and I haven't seen Red since Daytona, everybody else even longer than that. I would like there to be somebody I can have on speed dial for those weekends. You know as well as I do there's going to be stuff I'm going to need to talk about.

This will be a lot of hard work. But it's also what I live for. It's what makes me who you love. So let's go out there and get it done, yeah?

Red. Hi. [And he's going to get a very tight hug.] I will. I just know I get a lot of stuff on my mind during the season, not always someone there to hear it.

Like we've already had our first fight today.

I appreciate that.

I know this isn't going to be easy on either of us. With me being gone and not so great at keeping up. But I hope you know that doesn't mean I love you any less. I don't want us to drift apart because of my work.

And you call me if you ever need me. I may not be able to answer right away, but I don't want you to think you can't come to me either.
