[ his features wrinkle in what appears to be a portrayal of amusement. his fingers steeple, eyes watching victor curiously, fixated. ]

Indeed it does, Mr. Fries, yes. Once the world has abandoned its thought of you, you are free to think only of it and your next move upon it.

[swore]

[ A long moment passes before Victor speaks again. He seems— restless. Not nervous, not anxious, just restless. ]

Why not just let me die?

[deconstructs]

Because I believe in your work, Victor.

[ his fingers separate, each a parallel gap to the other. ]

And that work, it would appear, is not yet finished.

[swore]

My work.

[ Victor's voice trails off. The purpose of his work has gone, crumbled into ice and dust. What does he have, now? ]

Not yet finished, for you, you mean.

[ His tone is practical rather than argumentative. ]

[retake]

You may find clarity in short supply around here, professor.

[deconstructs]

I believe that, perhaps, it is simply a matter of time and effort, before we could possibly make such a diagnosis.

[retake]

A man of principle. I respect that.

[deconstructs]

[ his chuckle is noiseless, a mere exhale of breath. it reflects in his features, though, that same mask that galavan wears — you must remember to smile, hugo, a conscientious effort instilled in him as a younger man. ]

I have always thought us to be — kindred spirits, Mr. Galavan. Your conviction in all your past doings stand as — tantamount to my own.

[retake]

[ Like recognizes like, and though the corners of Galavan's eyes wrinkle, the smile — or at least its warmth — doesn't quite reach the rest of his features. ]

And so, as every crusade needs its sword, I shall be yours.
