throwback thursday - fallout edition

How it breaks my heart to see the cradle of America become such a dreadful place. How did it come to this, mundane? The place where the final battle of the Revolution was fought, the U.S.S. Constitution run aground; why, it's as depressing as the state of our great nation's capitol!

But, the Brotherhood... hmm... you know, mundane. Maybe, I underestimated them. It's nice to see that after all these years... they've managed to come around.

The fact that they've 'come around' isn't so nice for some of us. Maybe if they put all that technology of theirs toward a better use, it would be.

You could say that they've already tried that. The mutants of the Capitol Wasteland clearly took it for granted, and the Brotherhood suffered for it, taking all of their technology - and mine - with them to the Commonwealth.

They made such a mess of our great nation's capitol, using the Pentagon as their own personal clubhouse, and ransacked Adam's Air Force Base. But at least they now seem to realize what a menace the mutants that infest America are. If only they could have learned that sooner.

Unfortunately, mutants aren't the only ones they think are a menace.

Yes. Synths. I'd heard about them, and I can see that you, yourself, are one. Remarkable pieces of technology, I will admit. This... Institute would likely have been on our radar, too, after we'd dealt with the Brotherhood.

But alas, it seems that America will never be able to return to its roots. The Enclave is no more. It is a sad day, for this once great nation.

We've got to make do with what we have now. It'd help if we all learned to get along.

I know enough about human nature to know that that's impossible without order. Look at our beautiful capitol, being picked apart by mutants like vultures. Killing each other over pre-war garbage. The Enclave could have brought order to that chaos. Now, it's only gotten worse.

I wish I could speak with that vault dweller again. I'd tell my old friend to look at what the Brotherhood of Steel has become, and tell me if it was truly worth it.

Technology can do a lot of things, but it can't turn back time.

No, it can't. But America has overcome adversity before. It can again.

It needs to find another way to solve its problems, first. The world is violent now, but all that started well before the bombs dropped.

America, for all of the mutants picking it apart like vultures, has endured. It can rebuild. Or at least... it could have.

Mutants? Unless you're talking about the big green guys, that's what you call humanity. And sure, there's still the occasional flirtations with fascism and brutality, but I guarantee you they're doing a better job of rebuilding than you ever could.

Ironic that they are the ones carrying out the vision of the Enclave after destroying Raven Rock and Adams, isn't it?

Though it does beg the question, why?
