Voice Testing (and not sending you out to protect settlements)

Look, mun, I get that it's a running joke there, where you are. I can get that it can seem tedious and annoying to go out there again and again protecting settlements, but that's the cost of being the good guys here in the Commonwealth. It's not easy. There's a lot of work that way too many don't want to do.

But it can be done. That's why I trust the General as much as I do. They can get it done.

No thanks needed, General. You know I mean it. And you brought together a great group of people. That's the sign of a great leader.

And I suppose you can count Strong in that as well.

Heh. Better not let him hear you say that, or he might be insulted. [A pause.] I just seem to attract the strangest people. Or, well, Super Mutants. Or robots.

It is an interesting bunch, when you think about it.

[Fingers goes off as he rattles off people]

A dog. A journalist. A pit fighter. A merc. A Paladin. A PI. A Supermutant. A spy. A courser. A butler. A scientist. A mayor. And then there's me. A minuteman.

Yeah, that is a strange bunch. But you manage to run herd on all of them, and admirably, too, General.

It's not always easy being one of the good guys, but it is rewarding.

That's what the last ones that stood up to the Gunners thought. That's what the ones who gave their lives in Concord thought.

That's what I think.

So here's hoping the power of positive thinking works. It at least doesn't run on chems like Mama Murphys Sight does.

Tell that to Hancock. I'm pretty sure he's got plenty of positive thinking to go around, if you catch him on a tear.

Hancock has his own issues to deal with. And a vaguely scary woman with a big gun as his right hand person. So at least in Goodneighbor Hancock can make his own positive thinking.

He must be doing something right. That place hasn't been the same since he put himself in charge, but I'll stick with Diamond City until the rest of the Commonwealth catches up. It's getting safer, one day at a time, and that's thanks to people like you.

I just do what I can, Nick. You have your skills as a detective. My skills happen to be being a sucker for hard cases and being a decent shot with a laser musket.

And you put those skills to good use. It's a shame not everyone is willing to do the same.

It's hard just surviving out there. I don't blame a lot of them.

Plus, there are plenty who deserve some blame for allowing the Commonwealth to stay bad. Like, say, the Gunners or the Raiders.

And then there are those who honestly believe they've got everyone's best interest at heart, so long as 'everyone' is human. The way they solve problems just makes things worse for a lot of us.

It means a lot to me that you still have so much faith in me, Preston.

You have to have faith in something out here, General. Sometimes it's to a religion, sometimes an ideal. You just happen to do good with an ideal I have faith in.

Yeah... that's why I've chosen to have faith that what my son built, I can try to turn into a force for good.

Change it from the inside out. I know...it's not my way of doing things, for certain. Or the Railroad or even the Brotherhood. Here's to fixing the rot from within.

I won't defend what Shaun--... what they did in the past. Had Shaun not been part of them, much less their leader, I wouldn't have dreamed of helping them. But... I just couldn't take sides against my own son, Preston. Especially not when the Brotherhood was advocating genocide, and the Railroad was causing more problems than they were fixing. Really, the Minutemen seemed like the only people who really cared about the Commonwealth. But, you know me. You know I run a tight ship. Shaun said the Institute really did want to help the Commonwealth. I'm going to make them deliver on that promise.

I know earning back the trust of the Commonwealth will be a tall order. It's going to take years, maybe decades. If nothing else... I can at least sic the Synths on some Raiders and Super Mutants. Save the Minutemen a few headaches.

Yeah. I know that the other groups...they had their issues. And until you came along, the Minutemen weren't really much of anything because of Quincy. But rebuilding the Institutes reputation is going to take a hell of a lot of work.

Yes, having the synths go after the supermutants and raiders would be nice, but damn is it going to be hard work recovering the good name of the Commonwealths regional boogeyman. You really had to go and pull a Sisyphus, didn't you?

I know. At the very least, they won't have to worry about infiltrators and kidnappings, and it will be a cold day in hell before I allow the FEV experiments to continue. { ... unless they're a raider. } There's one in particular I won't be able to do anything about without causing a panic, but he answers to me, now. And he'll be cleaning up his act.

Unlike Sisyphus, I didn't betray my family or cheat death, but I guess, in a way, I am going to be pushing a boulder up a hill for the rest of my life.

...I didn't know that last bit, the betrayal or cheating death. One of the old Minutemen told me about it when I first joined, and he didn't know the whole story.

It is good that you have someone you can trust, with things the way they are.

That's true, big guy. It's rough out here in the Commonwealth.

I have heard of the commonwealth from a scientist...his name was Dr.Zimmer. He claimed to be from some...institute.

But it sounds much like the capital wasteland, where I come from. Ghouls, Raiders, Super Mutants. Danger at every turn.

You're from down south? Heard it's more chaotic, but you don't have to deal with The Institute. They're...they take people, around here. Snatch them away and leave a synth in their place. A fake person to spy on the Commonwealth.

When they can't infiltrate, they destroy.

Whoever this Zimner is, I hope he got what was coming to him.

Synths...he mentioned something like that. A replicated man of some kind he wished to retrieve.

But he only had one bodyguard. I somehow doubt he could make the journey home to his institute with so little protection.

He was looking for a synth?

Wow. That means it got as far south as the Capital Wasteland. That's pretty impressive. I've heard of rogue synths. One of the people I'm acquainted with is one, but he's a bit more...obvious than others.
