Mild SW spoilers have Dairine thinking. Spoilers likely in comments

Well, I can't say I'm surprised that the Dark Side has resurfaced. That's part of Its nature. Wherever Light and Life reside, those serving the darker Power are almost sure to show their ugly heads. I mean, It said so Itself. That Its shadows would keep coming back to bother us.

I'm not worried. [At least not too much. She smiles confidently.] They've already beaten the Dark Side once. So long as they keep fighting, their galaxy will be saved again.

[Then Dairine scowls.]

And for the last time, I don't want to fight the Vader wannabe! I'm not 11 anymore. I hardly even want to fight the real deal!

[...Much. Some dreams die hard. But Dairine has matured enough to realize the damage such a fight would cause. Plus Darth Vader isn't all evil.]

[Is it possible to run in headspace? Well, this sister's certainly trying! You're gonna get hugged, Dairine.]

[Okay, she's not sure how long it's actually been. Time travel, timeslides, and time freezing sort of make that unclear. But she's glad to see Dairine regardless.]

[Dairine will hug her back fiercely. She won't even complain about being called a runt, that's how glad she is to see Nita.]

...Too long. [She finishes her sentence for her.] Don't ask me for an exact amount. You don't wanna know.

[The various games she's been stuck in complicates things a LOT. Does she count the last time she saw her in Paradisa? Or back at home?]

I don't think I know, either.

How's Life going for you, Dair? What's the last thing you remember from home?

[And if there's anything currently troubling her sister, then she is MORE than willing to listen.]

[Dairine pulls away a little, frowning as she thinks back to events back home. Not much is good there.]

I went to bed after our battle on the Moon.

[Where she visited Timeheart to check on a certain someone... only to find him missing. AND THEN SHE GOT DRAGGED OFF BEFORE SHE COULD DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT, THANKS MUN.]

[Nita blinks - the battle with the Pullulus was just a little less than a year ago, for her.]

I'm- more than a bit further than that.

How much farther?

[Nita knew, on some level, what was coming, but she didn't have to like it. She took a deep breath, sighed, and said:]

Almost a year. But-

[And here she knew that this had to be said - there'd been enough trouble caused the first time around because she'd been too scared to start to do something about it, to be there for her sister entirely.]

But he's not dead, I checked Dair', I swear. Whatever happened, he isn't dead! Even the Manual doesn't know!

[Dairine wasn't too shocked by the time difference. Sure, she's not sure what to expect in a year's time, but Dair has been around these parts long enough to have seen multiple people jump farther into their timelines. Dairine might have bothered to ask what trouble the Lone Power was causing them this time.

...But then Neets brings up that bombshell and she stops, her mouth open. The stunned silence is short lived, as words start tumbling out.]

I knew it!! I haven't checked the Manual yet though I probably should've, but I stopped by Timeheart and Neets! He isn't there!

[Somehow, she's not quite surprised by that detail. ~~Wasn't that part of the extended semi-dream sequence anyway?~~]

And since he's not dead... then there's a greater chance we'll be able to bring him back. That you'll be able to find him.

[Because she hadn't spent nearly as much time with Roshaun as Dairine had; this was her quest, practically.]

[~~It was, though how much she remembers is debatable.~~]

[Dairine gives Neets one of her old fashioned looks. Not with much force behind it, but with just enough attitude to seem more like her usual self.]

Of course! What did you think I was planning to do? Leave him to wander the multiverse on his own? Forget it!

[Even without the force behind it, seeing it from her again is still a comfort.]

That's what I figured.

So, ah, where have you been? Wandering the multiverse yourself yet?

[She wouldn't be too surprised to see Roshaun somewhere or other in this place, but it wouldn't be quite the same thing, she's sure.]

Yup. What else is new.

[Wandering the multiverse has been her main past time, even when she was limited to her own universe.]

I spent a good chunk of time in a shady castle. Nowadays I'm at a city with gates called Genessia. But occasionally I find myself in these open spaces.

[Dair has in fact seen Roshaun before, but that was before they knew what was about to happen. (Even though their muns knew.)]

[Nita nods; you got her there, Dairine.]

Not many fun times, I'll bet?

Less fun than crummy times. And the travel restrictions were the worst. I couldn't even visit the resident moon!

[Dairine is rather cross about that. She will never know what made it blue.]

[Too bad. There was a Nita near the end of her time in Paradisa, but Dairine would have loved to have more friends there.]

Now that's a shame.

[Never prevent a wizard, much less a Callahan, from traveling - unless you're their mun.]

It's Nautilus. And it's not that there aren't any moons there; they're just more like illusions. The sky was brought about because of the people there - and that people were there, really.

[She can't help with the explanation.]

[Dude, that sounds confusing even to someone as smart as Dairine. She puts her hands on her hips.]

So let me get this straight – the reason your plant has a sky is because people are there? Usually it works the other way around.

[With a plant gaining an atmosphere which eventually leads to Life and other kinds of people.]

Yeah.

[Nita can't help but shrug.]

You know how reality's been described as an echo chamber, everything influenced by everything else? It's like that, but more direct. The city draws inspiration from the people.

And that's just with subconscious thought. Consciously, we can warp reality! Make objects appear from our will alone.

[Objectively, it sounds bizarre; she won't deny the absurdity in the least.]

And I've heard that some go on to make worlds - designing universal constants and physics on an individual basis!

[A bit like Ponch, there.]

[Dairine listens, intrigued. That sounds kind of fun but also rather concerning. With the type of people that the castle sometimes brought in, that power could easily get twisted for the worst.]

Huh. That kinda sounds like what you were doing with kernels.

[Oh, it has. Multiple times, in fact, but most of them occurred before Nita showed up.]

Yeah, it does.

... Haven't seen anyone else who knows what a kernel is, though.

[Maybe she should ask one of the Deva, sometime.]

I begin to think that there is a Dark in every world. And a Light as well. Even if they do not always take the same form.

I'm pretty sure there is.

[It's standard knowledge among wizards.]

Though occasionally you find a world where the Dark hasn't reached it yet.

It is a nice thought. that there could be a world like that.

I suppose, though it's a little unfair to the rest of us.

Fairness rarely has anything to do with matters of Light and Dark, I've found.

That's for sure.

[If it were, she would have been allowed to help fight for her mother.]

I don't see why everyone is so interested in that world right now. It doesn't even have any detectives.

[Dairine stares at Conan like he's insane.]

Uhh, because there's more to their story now? And why would they need detectives when they have jedi.

From what I've heard of that world, they would be better off if they'd had more detectives.
