Oh, the thing where she and I get to become acquainted through this whole "RP" thing. I guess this was a favorite pastime of hers, but it's been years since she last took part. To be honest, my love, I'm quite flattered she decided to pick me as her return to all of this.
Then mine asks me to pass on a 'welcome back,' since apparently that's the way to go. And me, I'm very glad that she chose you, and that you're indulging her. Things are... so much darker without you nearby.
You were always one of the very, very few people whose vision of the future I could love without reservations...
Well. This and that, and, outside 'private' stories, not too much of anything worth mentioning. I'm usually a pain in the ass for some people, a distraction and diversion for others, and overall just trying to make sense of where - and when - I get dropped. Not always easy.
That does seem like the more difficult side of this whole endeavor -- getting used to what's going on. I've been warned it can often get reeeaal ugly too.
Well. If I point out that you know how I usually don't have a very great opinion of people and yet they - still - succeed in disgusting me all over again, will you leave it at that and not make life worse for yourself by poking at more on your own?
If you heard a loud noise just now that was me screeching. <333
... of course. You wouldn't be you if just accepting what you're told to be true, without finding out the truths for yourself, were in any way possible. And I would be immeasurably saddened if you were to change.
You know you can always share your thoughts with me, right?
[ ... honestly, still Hamilton's. >.> And he's even more wasteful then. ]
No! You don't seem distant at all, I just meant to remind you that you've listened to my rants so many times, and I know I've ranted - if you feel the need, I'll listen and encourage you to let it all out, that's all!
It's quite enjoyable to be able to listen to your rants! Don't make it sound like it's a chore to listen to you or anything! It's so refreshing to have you, whose opinions so closely mirror my own. It's unfortunately a rarity, as I'm sure you know. ... And I'm also sure you know that I can be plenty loud when I want.
I do. I do trust you, John. Utterly and completely.
[ And, another smile. ] Always the best, for you. But yes, fascinating as in, you keep my attention riveted and my mind busy with coming up ways to give you more arguments, better words, should you need them.
sorry, I meant to reply to this last night buuut fell asleep at my computer WHOOPS
It just infuriates me to no end that there are still so many people who disagree with us. People who are otherwise so reasonable! I know I bring it up all the time, but I just don't get why so many value their own livelihood over the actual lives of others.
Most people are selfish at best. You know... you know I don't like people all that much. Assuming the worst doesn't make it any easier, just less shocking.
[Meanwhile here I am, weeping because neither of those things (1. a better world, 2. Laurens, living) happened for them. HISTORY IS SADDER THAN ANY FICTION.]
[John laughs softly.]
I hope you're giving this world to at least a few other people as well, otherwise I'm going to be terribly lonely.
[ No kidding WE CAN ALWAYS AU. AND/OR MODERN AU. But better world really didn't happen and just how disappointed would Laurens have been at Hamilton compromising with Jefferson and Madison?
... slightly impatient motion. ]
A few other people can live in it. Well, no, everyone can live in it, killing people is a lousy solution to anything, but still. Most of what I do is for you, eventually Eliza and the children, and the others who fought with us maybe, but mostly for people who are not yet born and won't be born for a long time yet, hoping they'll be better than the people we both know are. Because - well, you know my reasons, you, among all, know my sentiments. Most people who live now disgust me.
[I think constantly about how pissed Laurens would be about Ham's Poor Life Choices, as well as how slavery wasn't abolished until nearly 100 years later. Hell, I'M pissed about it. People suck]
I trust that future generations will indeed be better than some of the people we have to put up with now. I mean, look at the difference between my own Papa and me.
[ I KNOW, right? Ugh. Though lmfao ghost!Laurens occasionally haunting Alexander and yelling at him at length about stuff is now cracking me up. Also a couple of fics if you haven't read them...
... and now, Alexander does reach for Laurens, one hand on John's upper arm, squeezing just a little. ]
Do not make that comparison, my dear, I beg of you. You are the moon and stars, and he's no more than a dying leaf on the ground. He doesn't deserve you.
[It would be like A Christmas Carol only Laurens is all four ghosts. And I had not read those before! But omfg so perf, thank you <3
John smiles a bit, automatically leaning in slightly towards the touch.]
Thank you, my love, for that. You don't know how much it means to me. ... You know, perhaps the solution to our problem is to take all the money everyone has made from trading away lives and use it to send all of the colonies' young abroad for their schooling. Worked for me.
[ You're welcome, they are too adorable not to share. Also,
these two are too adorable for words...
... well.
It's been a long time. Alexander reaches and just draws John in close for a
hug, because. Just because. And because Henry Laurens is far from the most.
Nurturing and accommodating of fathers. But some things get talked about
only the one of them vulnerable opens the subject. ]
Hah.
That would be a start, if we can make them part with that money at all.
Expanding one's horizons is usually a good thing!
Unless your name is
Thomas Jefferson, but there have to be some exceptions, right?
[THEY ARE super adorable. Alsoooo I'm just gonna leave thesehere if you're interested...
John rests his head on Alex's shoulder, wrapping his arms around his waist in the embrace. The moment is all too short before he pulls back. He would have wanted to stay like that forever, but it does make conversation somewhat difficult. Plus who wants to hug while discussing Jefferson anyway?]
The exception that breaks the rule, maybe. Wish he'd just permanently move to France and leave us all the hell alone.
[ /quietly does, amused at the level of saturation and how similar it is... Also another friend reminded me of this.
Good point. Very good point. Alexander's heart still hurts, letting him go. He gives John a lopsided smile. ]
When did we ever get that kind of luck? We just have to deal with what we've got. Though even Jefferson would be easier to stomach with you by my side. You know that, right?
Easier still if we also had a bottle of whiskey. [He laughs loudly.] Then he might be somewhat tolerable. Though I think mostly I'd be entertained because of whatever words you'd have for him, my dear.

... but I'll speak about it, anyway. Mostly along the lines of, at least you're mostly in good company around here. Some Virginians notwithstanding.

Yeahhhhh, Virginians and a certain monarch, it seems.

[ Okay, okay, no sad thoughts. None, not today. ]
I have more experience with the former, I'll have to defer to yours with the latter. And I mean in general with monarchs, not this one in particular.

Worry not, it's happened to me, too!
And better than mine alone as well, my dear Laurens. You know what good needs to and can happen, and so we can try to make it possible together.
