On growing up, becoming a lady and finding ones place in the world.. or not.
While it is true, and I acknowledge that, I must grow up and be what society thinks is proper; it doesn't mean I want to.
I wanted a life of adventure, or at least something more than to marry a man who is well off enough to provide for me and my comfort. That seems greedy and self serving to say the least.
As a girl I went to Neverland I met Indians and fought pirates and was nearly ended by mermaids... it was the most fantastic thing I can imagine. How am I to simply leave all memory of that behind and accept this dull life?
I may no longer be a child, but I refuse to be a sedate gossip with nothing more than social engagements and a house to manage.
It wouldn't really be running away would it? That's only something children do, and I am now a woman.

Think less and act more. You'll be happier in the end.

Games that could take you very far away.

...and they aren't for the feint of heart, Wendy-lady. You must know that before anything else.

I am not sure I believe that.

Or just strike it off on your own. Sure, it'll be tough, but it's not impossible.
no subject
Adventuring on my own isn't entirely something I know how to make happen, if it is even possible.
no subject
I see your point
Well, you're young atleast. If you've courage and intelligence enough, you could find a way.
no subject
It is a sad truth.
I flatter myself to think so, I faced down an infamous pirate. I suppose though it is really the situation which determines ones courage, perhaps that is the side of intelligence.

Try and find a some way to get into a college. If you're that concerned about your family, just remind them that men go to universities too.
Facing a pirate of any sort takes courage, and if you manage to outsmart then yes it does take intelligence.

Women are starting to attend university, I suppose that would not be utterly out of the question to propose.
Peter truly bested him, but I stood alone against Hook for some time, I remember he terrified me and fascinated me in equal measure.

That's something in your favor. While there, you'll be able to find some place of your own, or at the very least connections. Men will take you more seriously when they realize you're not just there to catch a husband.
Some men are like that..

I will look into that directly, it seems a safe way to forestall any pressing suitors as well. It might well buy me years.
Are they? He wasn't like other men I have known, but that is limited to my father and those who travel in our social circle. They tend to be mild in manner.

A degree will take atleast several years to earn, so you're right.
Yes, unfortunately, and what's worse is that they're aware of those traits and will use them as weapons-or try to anyway. Not saying all men are like that, I've fought and spent time with a good number of decent men, but it's a matter of looking for 'red flags'.
Best advice, trust your instincts, not your heart. Even if your family's trying to hook you up with someone you feel is 'not right', find a way to get out of it.
no subject
Well there is that, then.
Red flags? I suppose that is exactly what they would be, a warning of things to come. You fight with men? Are you in the service? I didn't know women were allowed.

US Army, and it's an era thing. Women in your time might be able to volunteer as an army nurse, but they wouldn't be allowed to officially join the army until the late 1930s. They started allowing women to enlist as officers to prevent fraternization.
no subject
US? The states? In your era, which I am ravenously curious about, women are so free to do so much. I envy that.
no subject
Compared to where you live, yes we're giving more freedom, but it's far from perfect either. I've been called every insult in the book- *among other things she's not about to discuss with a girl her age* And with what I've paid and sacrificed to get where I am, it's not for everyone.
Still, doesn't mean I wouldn't change a thing either.

I had business with him, I had to rescue my brothers and Peter, but I shan't be seeing him again I think. such magic works only when you are a child.
But apparently my manners are no better now than they were then, my name is Wendy Darling, it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance.

*The name rings a bell of her own, the references to brothers and 'Peter' only reinforcing it* It's all right. I'm Captain Sonya Blade.
no subject
A Captain no less, well then now I have known a nice captain and a vicious one. I should perhaps write this into a story.
no subject
[The remark of her being 'nice' gets a smirk.] I'm only vicious in combat.[And when her loved ones are threatened-she can be a self professed momma bear when that happens. I make a point not to harm or threaten kids, so you're right on that account.
no subject
I am glad to know you Captain Blade.

It was interesting talking with you as well, Ms. Darling.

I can think of a few things some of the guys would say to that, but none of them are fit for a young lady to hear.
