You know, I totally get what you mean! But it's also really odd to say out loud, that's for sure.... um, either way! It sure is a great feeling though, being let out! There's nothing like stretching your legs when you're allowed out of your mun's headspace!

Oh! Can you hear the seraphim, too?! [ guuurl, you are making all his wildest dreams come true! ♥ ]

[WELL.] Sorry-...? On second thought we may be on different wavelengths after all...

Oh but-! Since you brought it up, I might as well ask. What are seraphim? Are they anything like spirits?

Well, kind of. [ oh, well. It was worth a shot. Scratchin' his head a little, he sheepishly smiles. ] They're guardian spirits...kind of? Some people revere them as gods, but I feel like that's not really the case.

My friend, Mikleo, is my brother, but he's a seraphim! We're not really all that different. He's just got white hair! And we both love ruins!

Woooww.... so what you're saying is- you can basically hear spirits that are kind of like gods? [it's still pretty cool!!] I have a friend like that! ...Well, sort of. She's the Lord of Spirits! So I guess... maybe it would be on the same level?

And...let's see, the Celestial Record says, "things which cannot be seen or explained, such as gods, spirits, or supernatural phenomena, are revered by the people as seraphim." [ he reaches behind his back and pulls out a book-- worn from years of love and endless reading. There are ancient bookmarks hanging out of the sides, and there are definitely books that have seen better days, for sure. But he holds it out proudly. And...yeah, he just recited it from memory ~~he's read the damn thing thousands of times so he'd better have it all memorized~~ ] So...really, a seraphim can take any shape but are mostly hidden from people who don't have enough resonance!

Right?! She really is an amazing person, too!

Whoa whoa whoa! There definitely must be a connection here, just give me one second....! [suddenly leia is grabbing her pen and notebook, ready to jot down some notes!]

Do you mind if I record this sort of stuff? I can just feel it- this is gonna be a great story! Call it my intuition as a journalist!

Uh...sure! [ lookin' at your notebook. you record things? DO YOU GO ON JOURNEYS? AND RECORD EVENTS AND DESTINATIONS AND STORIES? he looks like he really wants to see what's written in your book. much interested. ]

[....wow okay sorey relax there!! leia looks up and notices his intrigue, however.]

Uhhmm.... are you interested in this? [she holds up her notebook a little.]

I'm not writing anything bad about you, I can promise you that! ....Or- wait, are you thinking about something else entirely?

So, okay. Now I have to ask... If they're not actually voices in your head, what are they?

They're like...invisible people. But they're real. They are like the gods of old have been described. Never aging, and with immeasurable magic prowess. But most humans can't see them.

[ that doesn't make it sound like I'm totally crazy, right? Right? He never explainss this to other people...specifically for this reason. Sigh. ]

[He folsd his arms across his chest, considering that a moment. Fortunately, he's been around places like this and in games long enough to know magic and spirits and such aren't just fairy tales. ...plus on some weird level, he can relate to hearing voices. Sort of.]

Huh. Is this like, one of those "truly have to believe to see" sorts of deals? Or some kind of ability you were born with?

I was raised among seraphim, so I guess I'm kind of a special case. My dream is to have a world where we can all coexist, and everyone can see everyone else! I'm still working on it, though. Unfortunately, there are lots of people out there that aren't really open minded about those kinds of things.

[ he pauses, and looks at you. O-oh, no wait. Small panic. ] Not that I'm saying you aren't open minded! The Celestial Record has basically no record of humans and seraphim ever being able to speak to eachother without the aide of a Shepard...and even then, it's pretty tricky.

[ small eyebrow twitch. last time he had to shut his eyes and hold his breath and hold his hands over his ears. It was much uncomfortable. :[ ]

[The corner of his mouth quirks in amusement.]

To be fair, I probably wouldn't have been so open minded about this a few years ago, since magic and spirits and all that really isn't much of a thing where I'm from. But hanging around places like this? Gets a guy used to the idea.

[Amusement fading, his tone then becomes a little more serious.]

Having dealt with a lot of close minded people about other things, though... You've probably got your work cut out for you, dude. It's tough enough when it's something people don't understand, but if they can't see anything on top of that? That's a challenge for sure.

It is... [ he smiles, and gives a thumbs up. ] But this is the dream that I chose. It's the answer I give myself when I struggle. I would do anything to see an era of peace between humans and seraphim! [ DREAMS! AMBITIONS! DETERMINATION! ]

[Hmm, optimism. Determination. Good goals, since peace is involved. Rex has to admit he's impressed with this guy's attitude. Whether he can get the job done is another matter, but then again, sometimes it's amazing what someone can accomplish with enough drive. Rex himself knows that well enough.]

Well, points for being committed. I can definitely respect that.

Name's Rex. Nice to meet you, Sorey.

So what's your mun want to do with you? They already got plans or are they just kinda letting you out here to see what happens?

Likewise! I'm not really sure. I think she really wants to move me somewhere, but she's usually pretty busy. [ sigh. the struggle. so real. ] I've seen a few of her ideas, and I'm...not exactly 100% most of them.

[ of course you're not. they're rather steamy games. i mean. what? ]

Sounds about par for the course, really. I mean, it's impossible to meet anyone around here who agrees all the time with what their mun wants to do with them. Mostly, it's just a matter of hoping they'll listen some of the time and cut you some slack.

[He shrugs.]

As for being busy? If not games, there's always memes or PSLs.

[Though steamy stuff, huh? WELP.]

[ he nods understandingly. ]

Well...what about you, Rex? What do you do? [ WELP, WELP. i mean. there are some friends in those places, so. but...sorey doesn't need to know that. i'd probably spook him up. ....probably. ]

Uh, well... I guess the answer is gonna depend on what you mean by that, since what I do now is a little different from what I used to do at home. My mun's had me in the same game for over five years and even though that place has problems, they're not always the same kinds of issues I dealt with before getting there.

[Granted, Rex does like to talk about himself, but he's also aware that yammering on endlessly isn't exactly polite, either. One step at a time, here!]

But if I had to break it down in the most basic way possible? Hero work. Fighting for those who can't fight for themselves and all that jazz.

Hero work? That sounds awesome! [ he's so impressed. You are a very cool person. ♥ ] Fighting for those who can't fight. That's great! [ he pauses, looking contemplative. ]

Do you like where you are?

[It's a little tough NOT to look proud of himself, even just briefly. He's gotten better over the years about being more modest, but his ego's never completely gone away.]

Yeah, I do. It's a city called Nautilus and, not gonna lie, it can get pretty rough there sometimes. But my older brother is there and so is my field partner, who's part of the family to me at this point. There are also people there not related to me from other worlds who've become like family, too. Having them around makes it easier to deal with stuff like monster invasions and bad storms.

Bad...storms? Like weather? [ he ponders quietly. y'see, there was this one time in pendrago where it rained and basically drowned the economy-- ]

But...it's nice that you have friends there. [ he smiles. ] I hope to find a place with my friends in it, too. [ friends are cool. ]

Um, no. Not like bad weather kind of storms.

[He rubs at the side of his neck, thinking on the best way to explain. This is always one of the fun parts of telling people about Nautilus.]

They seem to hit once a month or so, and last about a week when they do. And instead of being weather related, they're reality related in that they alter reality in the city. Sometimes they just change the landscape temporarily, but storms can change us city inhabitants, too.

Anyway, I'm sure people you know are wandering around here somewhere. [His mun has seen a few, even though Rex doesn't know who they are.] Still, even if you end up somewhere they're not, you can always make new friends.

Wh-- they have that kind of power?! [ oh em gee, yo. r u ok bro? He crosses his arms and tilts his head a bit. ] But...you all manage alright? That's amazing... [ suddenly, he looks off into the distance. The thought is deep with this one. Perhaps it's a cultural accommodation? Maybe a high ranking seraph with the power of illusions? Maybe even a hellion? ]

[ basically, his face is scrunched up in thought. At the second part, his expression softens a little. the smile returns to his face. ] Yeah, I'm sure that they are. I can't say I'm not interested in this place you're from, though!

[Okay some of the time, NOT so okay other times. Not that he'll dive right into the details without prompting on this stuff. Some of it gets pretty complicated at points.]

Yeah, they do. See, Nautilus is a city that hangs between worlds. Sort of like a...multidimensional hub that people from all those worlds can get to if they hear the city's call and "wake."

But there's a lot of Chaos below the city and out in The Between area, and once in a while, it builds into a storm and hits Nautilus.

[Reactions to hearing about Nautilus vary from person to person, though via Rex's own experience, it's a little more unusual to hear from someone who's legitimately interested in the City of Change. Hmm.]

It's an experience. Sometimes a really weird ongoing one, that's for sure. Given what you said before about being used to things like seeing beings others can't, though, you might handle being there better than some other people.

What-- what?! [ i-interdimensional...? ] And wake up? So it's kind of like the place you go when you dream..you just wake up there? That sounds, er, disorientating. [ j-just callin' it like he sees it. ]

Aaactually it's more like the other way around, since we call people who are still in their own worlds Sleepers or Dreamers. Not that reality back home is a lie or anything. Being Awake and in a place like Nautilus is just, um...well, like having a higher sense of awareness.

And yeah, it can be a little disorienting at first. Especially since when you get there, if you have any sort of special abilities or powers? They...sorta stop functioning. Temporarily, anyway. They have to be willed back into working again.

[That second part is usually the one that gets to people the most. Those with special powers, anyway. Not that Rex can blame them, as for some having to win back what they've already earned at home is incredibly annoying.]

Gasp, are you saying you really are crazy, Sorey? I always had a suspicion but I didn't want to be rude.

[ ...Edna not wanting to be rude? She can't help but grin. ]

No!

[ a small pause goes here. ]

I mean, no, I'm not crazy! [ he lets out a small sigh. At your mercy, ma'am...as per normal. But he picks right back up again. ] It's good to see you, Edna!

There's a difference between seraphim and someone hearing voices in their head. I would think you of all people should know this. Though I suppose it's only natural people will think the Shepherd is crazy, there's really no helping that.

[ She does perk up at his actual enthusiasm at seeing her, because though she won't admit it she likes the attention. ]

It's good to see you too, I suppose. Though it's surprising to see you alone here, without your boyf--Sorry, I mean Meebo.

I know that! [ he laughs a little bit. ] I've never thought of myself as crazy for being able to converse with seraphim, even if other humans think I'm crazy. I just gotta set an example somehow! [ flawless, Sorey. 10/10. gj. ]

[ he didn't really pick up on the 'boyfriend' reference, but he gives Edna a worried look upon hearing her nickname for his best friend. ] Have you seen him around, anywhere? I was kind of hoping we could go explore some world with ruins together! You can come too, Edna! [ feather tipped ears filled with the joyful sound of 'ruin exploring'... he looks really happy. ]

You certainly do a good job setting an example. Maybe the next generation of humans will all start wearing feathers and talking to themselves.

[ As silly as he might be, Edna actually trusts and respects Sorey. She just hates to have to admit such a thing. She needs to keep her cred, okay? ]

Is that what the kids are calling it these days? [ She covers her mouth almost as if she were scandalized at that. ]

I'm not sure about that... I mean, hopefully, people will just be able to talk to seraphim, and not look like they're just talking to themselves, y'know? [ HIS DREAMMMM ♥ . ] And it's not like I wear that many feathers... [ he starts a small count. and may or may not have noticed that he, in fact, does wear a lot of feathers. siiigh. edna: 9,873, sorey: ...none. ]

I'm sure you only look a little weird in public when you say something to us out loud. [ here's mikleo, being extremely helpful with his comments. ]

I don't know if I'd say you're "just fine", though. [ annnnd here's his daily dose of Sorey trolling. he is the greatest friend ever. ]

Really? [ he scratches his cheek a little. ] I usually try and be pretty quiet. You think people catch it?

How about "better then fine"? What's a good word...? I'm, uh...awesome! [ yep. Sorey's weak come backs are weak. But he looks happy to see you anyway. C: ]

I think you've gotten a few strange looks before. [ he may or may not be completely making this up. ]

Really, Sorey? That's the best you can come up with? [ despite all his teasing, he's happy to see Sorey too!! his trolling is a sign of affection...!? ]

Just be glad you're the Shepherd so no one thinks much of it when you're being extra weird.
