Season 6 feels/homeless
Why are you acting so surprised and upset over what's happened here recently? You knew those people were weak as well as I did. You knew they weren't going to survive, people like that never do. Besides I've already said I don't get to save people anymore....

So that's how it is now, huh? Seem to remember that you were one of the weak ones before.

That's how it's always been [She hisses at him lowly as she keeps her eyes locked on him just incase for any kind of sudden movements but at his next comment, a comment that use to be sadly true, she takes in a breath]
I changed.

He holds up his hand(s) in a display of non-violence, though there is a certain respect for her readiness. He'd seen the change in her at the prison, but again he has to say - damn.]
Yeah. Never figured you'd leave that prison. Didn't think ya had the stones for it.
[He couldn't care less whether those people lived or died - That was life now. But her description reminded him of the people in Woodbury, sheltered and ill-equipped to face reality.
If the housewife was this willing to write them off, what about the rest of their ragtag little group? Somehow, he didn't see his bleeding heart baby brother being real keen on that line of thinking.
He gives her a sidelong look, measuring.]
Guess I was wrong. Y'all didn't me to do your dirty work after all.

Didn't have much of a choice! [She spat back at him. Of course she didn't mention the fact that Rick had told her to leave but she came back in the end]
That's not dirty work [she was quick to point out] That's doing what I have to do.

[Just as Carol was undaunted by Merle's presence, the elder Dixon was hardly a stranger to being held at gunpoint. Hell, it was when you didn't see the weapon that you had cause to be nervous - As it was mostly likely going to end up shoved in your back. He's already well aware of his own grisly fate by now, which is part of why he needs to get his fun in where he can.
That, and his mun spends entirely too much time on Officer Friendly, rather than him.]The Gov'nor never used to call it that either. Used to say the same thing - Doin' what had to be done. What's best.
[Merle was a lot of things. A drug addicted, racist asshole. There was no point in pretending that he hadn't fucked up his life seven ways from Sunday, both before and after the world had gone to hell - But it hadn't been until Phillip that Merle had taken that final step. More than twenty lives were on his conscience now, proving once and for all that he did in fact have one.
Eliminating threats, they'd said. Making sure that no one would take what was theirs. All the pretty words, justifications to try and soothe that itch that never quite seemed to go away. Then that samurai bitch had to go prodding at that hornet's nest, forcing Merle to face the hard truths he'd been ignoring.]
Gets real easy when you start pretendin' they wouldn't've made it anyway.

She felt her jaw clinch slightly when he mentioned the Govenor, that he would say the exact same thing but Carol wasn't like that man and she wasn't like Merle. She didn't just go around and kill innoncent people because she had that power or they had something she wanted. No. She killed because she had to, that's how you survived]
You believed that bull shit he said? He killed people because he could . You, Andrea, Hershel....
And you and others let him! Because you were doing it to....
[She points over her shoulder]
Those people, people I'm talking about they were good people, innocent people. People who were just trying to live.....
They didn't stand a chance. None of them.

[Regardless of what Rick's group thought of him, Merle had no intention of escalating the situation. He lived to push people's buttons, test their limits and instigate - But Daryl, for whatever reason, still wanted to play house with these people.
Say what you would about him, but his loyalty to his sibling ran deep.
The comparison to the Governor was likely deserved, given that he'd been the one to throw that card down, but it didn't make it any easier to swallow. His expression faltered for a moment, betraying his irritation.]
Here I thought you were all grown up. No one's innocent in what's left of the world. S'all about bein' able to sleep at night, and still bein' able to see the next mornin'.
[The condescending smile he'd worn previously had all but faded away, head cocked to the side.]
You keep tellin' yourself whatever you have to, but in the end, we ain't so different.

Why did you kill people for, Merle? Huh? Because he told you to? You tried to kill Glenn. Would you have tried to kill Andrea too? Those people you killed did you do it because you thought you were doing the right thing or were you saving your own ass? Because you knew if you didn't that he would come after you, kill you.
And he did.
I don't kill people because I'm scared or afraid. I kill them because I have to. That's what you do now, we all know that. It's them or it's us. It's not going to be us anymore.
We've lost enough and I'll be damned if we lose anymore.

Simple as that.
[There had been nothing simple about it. Merle had never found a place to belong, and Woodbury had almost been a fit for him. It was a bit like a jacket that was a too snug - Straining at the seams and not entirely comfortable, but it served the purpose. It was probably the closest Merle had ever come to fitting in anywhere, sadly.
Glenn had just been an unfortunate casualty in the whole thing, but ultimately, he'd brought it on himself. His refusal to share Daryl's whereabouts had landed them in that predicament in the first place, and the way he saw it? It took two to tango. Kid had balls, and he'd come out the other side of it - What the hell did he have to complain about?
He didn't need to justify himself - especially not to her.]
The Gov'nor killed me 'cause he got lucky. Woulda done a hell of a lot worse, too.
[You're welcome, by the way. Suddenly, he's not feeling nearly so talkative.]
Good luck with that, darlin'. Losing people's just part of the way things go now.

[She shifts slightly and glances off into the distance for a moment]
We've lost some good people along the way. Back at the prison we got to comfortable and we lost it. Other place we're at now we got attacked, weren't prepared. Well...they weren't.
They'll most likely come back, they always do but this time we all will be ready. Rick isn't going to let anyone else die, neither is Daryl or Glenn or me.
Not anymore...
