Seriously, it's been how long since the game ended and you're still on this tangent? We were friends as children and then I worked with Liquid as an adult. That's all you know for sure. Honestly, you read too much into these sorts of things and you know it.

Throw me into something again, dammit! I'm getting bored waiting for you to find someone who screams over the franchise as much as you do.

Mm yes. Sounds perfect. [Liquid hummed in amusement at the idea.] I'll punch him black and blue while you probe his mind. Make him squeal.

I prefer screaming to squealing. [He stood just a little bit taller, spine straightening out.] More dignified for everyone involved.

[That got him to laugh. It was a louder one, and held a hand up just below his chin as if it would do anything more to hide the smile on his face.]

Now all we need to do is find him.

Yes, we do need to find him but the question is where? Where would my brother be hiding? Perhaps down a hole like the snake he is.

Hidden away in a little den out at some corner of the world. Snakes are solitary like that.

Yes, he is good at hiding and sneaking away from me.

Why wouldn't I be? He stole everything from me! Even my own right to kill my father.

You have to at least admit that he probably doesn't even know you exist. Besides, from what I've heard, he had very little choice in that matter. If he had known, you might have had a chance to kill your father together.

That's very true. He might not know I exist here but he'll damn well know when he does. [Because Liquid isn't one to skulk in the shadows like his brother.]

I would have revelled at the chance to get my hands around Big Boss's neck and strangle him for what he did to me. I....I was born a failure. Garbage to the world. It hurts.

I can already see the loud yelling match that will turn into before you try and punch his head off.

[Cause he knows you, Liquid. You wouldn't succeed at that, but you would try.]

You weren't garbage. That was what everyone else said about you. Scars from that kind of talk and thinking run deep, but that doesn't mean they were right. You survived military training that would probably kill lesser men. It amazes me sometimes that you can't take more pride in that. That's your favored emotion after pure anger.

Hmph perhaps. [He just nodded with a slow sneer. Snake would try his famous CQC on him no doubt. Something their father learnt off his mentor the Boss all those years ago.]

Your words comfort me, Mantis. The scars do run deep when you were the child that was never meant to be born. My brother took that honour. [Yes it hurt but your words do more to soothe him more than anything else and he welcomes that.]

[He crosses his arms. He'd heard of CQC and its applications, but never found anyone who could remotely teach him the techniques.]

You were supposed to be born. If you were truly not wanted, we wouldn't be here discussing the merits of your existence like this. You lived. You were able to wreck Big Boss' plans when you were but a child, and I know that because I was there to help.

I did wreck some of his plans but he isn't dead. That's where I failed. My brother got there before me and finished the job. [He's still so very bitter about all of that.]

And? Big Boss is still dead and now there's someone even more loathsome to focus your attention on. It's like trading up from a Greek tragedy to a Biblical one. Killing "Able" will be more satisfying.

My loathsome brother, quite true. [He clenched his right hand into a fist and heard the leather glove squeak.] He will know my revenge.

[Mantis raised a brow at the clenched fist and patted Liquid's arm.] Easy... We'll have time for that and everything else. We always do.

Of course we will. Time will allow us to finish what we started and nothing will get in our way. If it does then we swat it out of our lives, as if swatting a fly. Right, Mantis?

Exactly. Simple solutions to simple problems. [He shakes his head. Though he wasn't one to talk, Liquid could be quite dramatic.] What shall we do now, drama king?

[Drama king? Pfft.]

Exactly. Simple, yet so effective. Is that what you think of me, Mantis? A drama king?

[TELL HIM HE'S WRONG. He'll wait.]

[Aren't they both? Mantis backs down just slightly. Enough that Liquid probably won't get pissed off.]

You could probably do a good job with Shakespeare with a little practice.

Hm, perhaps Macbeth? He and his brother didn't get on either, did they?
