While your effort flatters me, I'm pretty sure my canon is all but forgotten. It may actually be for the best. It was a dark story. Though I suppose you're right: I got out and my name was cleared. So maybe it was worth telling after all. Sometimes I still can't believe I escaped that place.

If you should send me somewhere, just don't let it be another prison. Even you wouldn't be that cruel.

It's fine. I made a friend there and he helped me get justice. And I helped him get his. Those people that abused us are locked away.

[He gives a rueful smile.] This might be a servitude of a sort, but it's not prison. Freedom is best of course but once you've had to live there for years, you know the difference. It would be hard for me to experience worse than I have.

Being a prisoner doesn't always mean that you're behind bars. Servitude can prove just as worse a prison as any other.

I don't wish to inflict that horror on others. However, as long as I never forget I am satisfied. It's horrible not to have your memories. Even if they are painful.

...You really think so? Is the past really that important? [Fellow missing memory here.] I mean, the future's pretty important.

[He seems uncomfortable talking about it. After all, he lied to Guys and told him it was an opium addiction. But the truth was, the blackouts scared him too.] Someone or something else might try to fill in the blanks if you forget and what they fill it with might not necessary be something to your liking. It's not good to dwell on the past, but past experiences sometimes give you the tools you need to handle the future. If that's gone...[Maybe it wouldn't have done him much good to remember where he had hidden the evidence since it was with him in prison. But he could have tried to come up with a plan, got someone on the outside to help possibly, even if that chance was slim.]

Bad things happen when you focus on your past too much. It's okay to have memories when you can, but if you try too hard, you'll lose what's ahead.

[He doesn't usually admit this, but maybe it's help if he knows he's not alone.] There's some things I don't remember either, but I have a pretty good life now.

[His expression hardens at the mention of Enzai's infamous warden.] Durer. [His voice is dark. How many years did they play cat and mouse? How many times had he thought 'this is it: he'll go too far and kill me today.'?] Best to avoid running into that one if you can.

And yeah. Guy I know ended up killing the psychopath in the game they were in together. Good riddance, I say. Hope if you get apped somewhere, you don't hafta deal with him. [ His expression and tone imply that he doesn't really care one way or the other, but someone as trained to emotion as Vallewida should surely know this is just a facade. ]

I want to keep painting. So wherever I go, I'll probably do something with that. And I want to read books I haven't read.

Finding new books is easy enough to do. Even with all the time in the world, they'll always be more than you can read.
