S'been a year already? ...Guess I ain't been keepin' track a' time as well as I used to. [There seems little point in keeping a tally after your time with those you care about has long since run out.]

I just finished season 2 yesterday...my feels. /sighs.

(Marie gives a little smile.) A year, that's pretty good, yeah?

[He doesn't return the smile but his face is soft in thought.]

S'been a few times when I thought my mun would have to let me go. But, well... I'm still here. That's somethin'.

[So much better than the alternative. He's had the chance to spend time with Nick and Clem and Jane, time otherwise cruelly cut short.]

Why? Just why? I almost rage quit the game.

(She nods.) Yeah, it is something. It's a good something, at least, that's what others have said before about their whole situation. You must be liked a lot, I think. Or you're strong willed. Or both.

Mine keeps thinking about letting me go, but she never does.

(A pause.) Oh, so what's your name?

I'll tell ya, after that forced death my interest in the group nosedived

[A soft, wry huff of a laugh, barely heard.]

Maybe.

[He looks up and considers her for a moment. Quietly weighing the pros and cons of opening up.]

I'm Luke.

Same. Only finished the game because I was already that far in.

Well, I mean, at least in my case...it's better here than back where I was. A lot better. Well, to be honest, it is in most of the ways that matter. Like the not being dead part. I'm alright with that part.

(Er, better stop the rambling for now and answer his question. She looks a bit embarrassed by her display.)

I'm Marie. Nice to meet you, Luke.

[He frowns sympathetically.]

...I bet. [There isn't a faintest trace of sarcasm in his voice.] So I'm guessin' your mun's got you in a game these days? [Keeping busy keeps a muse sane. He never expected to have so much time on his hands, but that's what life after death offered him. It's a strange feeling.]

In a game? Well, sort of. It's not open yet. I guess they are still waiting on people or something... I'm not so sure it's the best idea for me to be there.

(She pauses then shrugs slightly.) I was in another one before this, but it didn't work out like mine thought it would. But, it was nice while it lasted. So, for the moment, I'm on my own. At least until the new place is ready, I guess.

(She frowns at her rambling.) So, what about you?

I'm in a couple games... [He shrugs, a loaded gesture. There's much he can say but he elects not to.] Keeps the mun busy.

[Then, thinking on her situation:]

It don' hurt to give it a shot, see where it goes. [After a moment he adds, unsmiling though not unkindly:] Hope it works out.

A couple games? That must be a lot to keep up with. I'm impressed, I don't think I have it in me. (She sighs and shrugs a bit, shaking her head slightly.) That's what it is all about, right? Keeping the muns busy?

I suppose? I don't know. I kind of have to question my mun's ability to judge what I can and can't do. But, I don't really have a choice in this, you know?

(A pause.) Ah, thanks. It'd be nice if it did, I guess.

[He doesn't get up to a ton in either game -- it's too easy to become overwhelmed.] S'all anybody can hope for.
