[he smiles wide, thumping the center of his chest with his middle and pointer fingers pressed together. it's hard not to laugh, even if that's a little mean; first meetings shouldn't be so stressful, should they?]

[he cranes his head in the direction of the voice. the very familiar but still somehow very different — older, deeper, calmer — voice.

that tiny little ping, right there? that would be the sound of Link's heart breaking. just a little bit.

his smile wanes for the briefest of moments, confused and lopsided as he tries to make sense of what he's feeling, before it twists itself back up again, a tad forcefully on his part.]

[his Keaton mask is already out, shoved up over his cap. he pulls it down over his face and arches his fingers into little claws.]

[Or he would be if most of his boss fights weren't pushovers. He's just here to torment the little Hero of Time anyway.]

[now this is a voice he's only taken to hearing in his nightmares.

Link's eyes go wide, and for a moment he's been reduced to the child he looks like: alarmed and horror-struck. and while the former still lingers, the latter dissipates pretty quickly to be replaced with something more grounded, steely.

yes, Ganondorf is right— he is one of those things that people should be afraid of. and once again, Link isn't one of them. hard to be afraid of someone who's rotting away in a prison of his own doing in one timeline, and stuck between realms in another. the hateful but wholly determined look in his stare should be indication enough of how he feels about the matter.]

[Ganondorf will relish in that fleeting look, but he's not disappointed that it doesn't stick. Quite the contrary. He despises the hero, make no mistake, but he is nothing if not a formidable opponent. When no one else could stand up to him, this boy did, and he has earned some begrudging respect for it.

Ah, but let's not forget that third timeline: the one where he defeated Link and plunged Hyrule into darkness for quite some time. This Ganondorf may not hail from that timeline, but he is aware. That's enough.]
