You and me have been through a lot. This game of ours has turned out to be mutually beneficial and you know that I'm willing to do just about anything for you out of the complete fondness I have for you.

But this new verse idea of yours?

I've been hurt and damaged in just about every way possible, but none of it's ever been so...permanent. With exception to a bit of stiffness in my shoulder I've always healed from everything you've wanted to play out.

But burns change everything, mun. There's no bouncing back from an injury like that.

I'm calling in a favor. Please don't find a reason to play me in that verse. I don't know who I will be.

I tried. I took lessons for about five years - it was the only contact with people my own age that didn't end in bullying. But I wasn't thin enough to compete, not even in contemporary dance. [Keep in mind that Akiyuki has canonically always been underweight and skips meals regularly if you want to properly progress how screwed up that concept is.] I'd kinda like to go, yeah. YouTube videos aren't the same as seeing something in person.

You must have had some terrible dance instructors. [He can't even fathom what kind of person they'd have to be to say such a thing to him. It's probably a good idea he doesn't know who they are. Petty revenge is a thing.]

We'll block out a time and do some research. See what shows are playing. And then fit as many things we want to see in that time as we can.

No, actually I had some pretty good ones. I had enough talent to get booted up to higher difficulty classes than most people my age. But American dancers are supposed to be thin and I'm not. It's not like I didn't try to lose weight but Tadashi and Aunt Cass kept making me eat and I just couldn't make the cut. [It's his fault, in his own mind, that he didn't make it. He should've tried harder.

He perks up, though.] Really? But you don't even like dance, do you? And we should do stuff you want, too.

American dancers aren't the only dancers in the world, Yuki. [He actually has never come across this before. What to say?] And I'm not a dancer, but it sounds similar to acrobatics. You've got to be able to support the muscle necessary to move, right? Being really thin sounds like the opposite. Well, we can find out.

We will. There'll be plenty of time for a magic show. And I like dance. For the most part. Well, I'm sure I'll like it at any rate. [Sheepish grin.] I won't know until I've actually watched it. I can admire the skill involved for sure. It's really cool that you can dance.

Yeah, yeah, 'Heidi Guenther could've been the first American prima ballerina if she hadn't died from anorexia so eat something'. Tadashi already covered that in detail. But I don't like abroad, I live in America. It doesn't matter. The ones hired most are the ones with a BMI of under 15. You willpower your way through the physical bits. Mind over matter. [And also this thing called keteosis where a starved body will temporarily gain energy from frantically processing fat for brief periods of time, but Akiyuki's got his own set of body issues that manage to be a sidenote with the superhero former murderer thing.]

Wait, you're the most dramatic person I have ever known. How have you not incorporated dance moves into that if for no other reason than to add some flair to things?

No Japanese dancers in San Fransokyo? [Honest curiosity. The culture mix is still new to him.] Though Noh theatre is a dramatically different sort of dance. [He doesn't want to lecture, so he won't get into it, but that kind of thinking worries the hell out of him. Wtf America.]

......well I could sweep my way through a ballroom if you gave me a night to prepare and memorize the steps. Honestly my style is more gymnastics than anything else. I spent my childhood learning how to play poker and fool the senses. Didn't leave much time for anything else.

Oh, there's a lot of Japanese dancers and dance in San Fransokyo. But they conform to the American ideal within months. Everybody wants a job. Even our Noh theater performers, who have minimal American influence, have a different look than yours. There's ideals - tall, pale, thin - that are just embedded into the nation and it's been embedded in there for decades.

Gymnastics and dance would be an awesome combo and you should do that. Like, now.

[No Kaito, you can't change an entire country. You don't have anywhere close to the resources or influence.] Everything's so different.

I know. But it's home. So as flawed as it is, I can't help liking it. We have gummy bears and sneakerheads and indie music and all the stuff that makes up for the bad in equal measure.

[Grins.] I'll get used to it. I already have a top reason to like it anyway.

[Rolls forward onto one hand, his dove still balanced calmly on his other hand as if this sort of thing is just the way the world works. No big deal.] We could start our own style~

[Don't think about that flexibility in bed. Don't think about the implications of a hot guy who can move like that sink in. No. No. Don't-

It's a fruitless endeavor, and he's not thoroughly red-faced as he looks away.] Do you say everything in your bedroom voice?!

[And the illusion of endless grace is brutally ruined as he blushes and loses his balance. The dove flies up out of the way as Kaito crashes into the ground, and he's lying there laughing almost before the dust settles.]

W-what? [Oh god, he's blushing so hard right now.

You just- you can't do that kind of thing and add in the flirty voice. We're kinda not at that point in our... relationship? What are we, anyway? [If they're going to be awkward they'll hit up all the awkward.]

I didn't mean to? [He flirts like he breathes, don't listen to him. It's a natural response. But he didn't mean to imply... aaaaaall of the blushing. They're going for a record here.]

Boyfriends? [Nice hesitation, Kaito.] I-I mean...if you want to be? I don't really know how to...do this much. [At least he sits up so he's no longer lying down while looking up at him with that uncertain, hopeful look?]

Of course I want to. I mean, I don't know how to do much on the dating front, either, but I... I really care about you, Kai. I like being with you. So, yeah - boyfriends. [Have the dorky smile that launched a thousand ships in fandom.]

[Cheers and rolls to his feet to hug Yuki. He doesn't do anything corny like spin him around or anything, but he wouldn't lie and say it wasn't tempting.]
