So we're going to try this, then? I can't say I'm not glad that you want me at a place where I won't be recognized and/or kidnapped to see how I work. I will miss Lee though. He's a damn good friend and an okay bodyguard. My dad I won't miss. I still haven't forgiven him for the skateboard incident. Haven't looked at flamingos the same after that.

A change of name and a new life might be a good thing even if the circumstances are a bit freaky. Maybe I'll be a musician or some sort of artist. Fae are good with those things and it doesn't matter if I'm only half. I could make it work, no matter how much I'd have to practice or work at it. I never was a quitter and I'm not going to start now.

You know, most people are more surprised that I didn't turn out like him than outright existing. Dad did have Charlie before me.

He just doesn't seem like the children type. Bloodthirsty animal yes, though 'ccording to my mother, there ain't much difference sometimes.

Just my older sister, Charlie. She's my cousin by blood, but Dad and his first husband raised her, so she counts.

Oh! You must've known him before his fusion. According to everyone, he's mellowed down a ton since those days. He's less bloodthirsty animal and more spree killer.

Well, he's still scary. That hasn't changed. He's just less likely to go ahead and see if he can tear you about with his teeth.

Now, why do I get the feeling you'll be assigned something you're more familiar with over something you might be good at?

Eh. Not that it matters all too much. It's always good to see someone else isn't so glum over this situation.

The only things I'm familiar with are exterminating creatures breaking the laws and doing paperwork.

It's not like it could be any worse than my life was up to this point.

Not sure I want to know what's worse than post-apocalyptic lifestyle.

Not really. I'm part of a government organization the deals with protecting humanity and supernatural beings from those who would cause them harm. We have laws that control the supernatural population, but there are some groups that would rather harm people than obey the laws and for the most part, imprisonment is not an option.

Three words: horrific science experiments.

Hah. Sounds like something we could use in my own world sometimes. Or, actually—what exactly do you mean by controlling the population?

Nothing bad, just like therians having to go to special facilities during the full moon and vampires have to go to sanctioned blood banks for food and nobody's allowed to bite and turn humans. It's all common sense stuff so we can all live together in peace.

I'm a biological mystery. There's never been records of an angel crossbreeding with a fae before and certain groups wanted to experiment on me to make sure I wasn't going to destroy the world or be powerful enough to do so.

Nothing 'bout trying to exorcise any... lingering spirits or some nonsense like that, right?

They could have just asked instead, but ohhh no. Nobody ever does that, do they?

Ghosts aren't usually what we deal with. That's more my dad's thing and even then, he only stop malicious spirits. All the others are left alone.

They asked, but they didn't like the answer, so they did tests on their own. Tests being the aforementioned horrific science experiments done on me.

Oh! ... In that case. [ He grins, loosens up. ] Sounds like my kinda place.

Guessed that much myself. Maybe a place like the Cave would do you good after all.
