So . . . [wavers, then shakes a firm finger] We're gonna lay some ground rules down, okay? No sending me to freaky dimensions, and absolutely no powers. I'm fine the way I am. Besides, I don't think the Valkyrie thing counts anymore.

And if you don't respect my terms . . . Well, I am in your head. And I am a damn good archaeologist. I can always start digging. [her smirk is a challenge, a personal call to arms] Maybe the next artifact I'll find will be your embarrassing demons from third grade summer school.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need time to . . . process. [rubs the back of her neck gingerly] Yeah.

Sometimes I get the impression that I'm only mine's favourite because I 'died' too.

Then I'll just have some fun digging around in her head. Right before I tell the entire Internet why her old grade school doesn't give the kids combs on picture day anymore. She'll come around.

By the way, it's not "lady." It's Annabelle. Dr. Annabelle Riggs. [she curtly extends a hand to shake. pissy or not pissy, she can at least do that much when the world's not ending]

[Thankfully he's used to curt ladies, so he takes it well enough, smiling as he takes her hand and shakes it politely.] Right, and I'm Eric, Eric O'Grady. Ant Man. The interesting one. So you know Valk too huh?

[that first comment gets a devious smile from her. it quickly becomes strained, though, like she doesn't know how to feel. like maybe she wants to be angry]

Yeah. Val's uh . . . Val's my friend. [she clears her throat sharply] How do you know her?

Welcome to the dearly departed doctors club, lass. [Her smile is wry, and more than a bit sad. She'd had a good, long life - this girl must be in her thirties at most.]

[Her odd expression doesn't faze him too much, though he raises an eyebrow at her words.]

Right. And we're on a team together. Secret Avengers. Like Avengers but more... covert ops'y. With Black Widow and Venom and Human Torch... the android'y one... and so on.

Oh. Well, that was fast. Switching teams, I mean. Unless this is some Asgardian time-travel stuff goin' on, in which case, great. I'm glad she's doing alright for herself. I've kinda lost track of her with the whole, y'know, dying and going to Valhalla thing. [pause] Which is not as fun as the legends say, let me tell you.

Oh, I'm part of an elite club, complete with alliteration. Yay. [her casually pissy expression falls for a more despondent one. she's leveling with this woman, doctor to doctor]

Hope your send-off wasn't Shakespearean levels of tragic.

[So wryly.] My first love embraced me one last time on the astral plane.

[In other words, yes. Yes it was.]

Might be, though I know she's mentioned being on the Defenders and all. Well if I'm honest I've had the whole dying thing too. Except I got a evil robot me for my troubles.

...I dunno, I figured there would be loads of eating and drinking and hot women. Is it not that?

[she winces] Yikes. Well, I'm glad you could say goodbye.

My uh . . . My friend lost control of herself and became this weapon of mass destruction. I tried to save her, remind her who she really was, but . . . [she gestures down at herself, as if to dryly say, "Ta-dah!"] got my martyr badge instead.

[aaand yeah, it's pretty clear by her tone at "friend" that she has a crush on this girl. the girl who killed her. when did her life become so complicated?]

[Oooh, that gets a wince.] I'm sorry, lass. It's always harder, when it's someone you care for.

...Do you know if it worked, in the end?

Well, no, that's pretty much it. And if the raucous partying is anything to go by, they're enjoying themselves. But eternal frat parties and pillow fights? Just not my scene.

Wait, so you got replaced by an evil robot? That's kind of awesome but probably not as cool as it sounds.

[she just nods to the sympathy, her head bowed]

I think . . . I think that side of her actually, you know . . . taking me with her is what sated her. She was fighting it right before she-- So. I hope so.

Otherwise, all my friends are dead.

...I wish I could tell you they weren't. That the heroes win, an' life is fair. [But it's not, it never was.]

I think I've learned better than that by now.

It just . . . Does it get easier?

Hmmmm, well forgive for thinking that does sound kind of fun. Though I guess if it was all the time it would be overkill.

Life Model Decoy, yeah, there was a bunch of evil robots who were trying to do the whole Terminator mixed with Blade Runner thing. I got replaced by one and he ended up being called the Black Ant. Just think like an evil Ant Man, really. And it wasn't awesome, no.
