[The Goblin King lounges as carelessly as ever, crystals darting about within the confines of his fingers. What is happening here is decidedly Not His Problem, no matter where he ends up in the end.]

But I daresay you know just as well as I that such a thing ought never keep you. Whatever would you do without the challenge? Which is precisely what I am here for, after all, so I do believe you've chosen well. As to the others --

[Quite suddenly, he isn't where he was. A slight wind rustles through feathers.]

-- my. If it isn't dear little Toby, all grown up. Have you still got my eyes, Toby...?

[13hours]

[ a huff. ] I never had your eyes in the first place, Jareth. [ jareth's are a little, er, striking. ]

Oh, I daresay you'd have grown into them. Given the chance.

[He regards the boy almost fondly. Of course Jareth will have another go at toying with him, given another chance. It's just what he does, and now Toby is old enough to decide things for himself. What a grand game it could be.]

Oh, no. I am definitely not letting anyone wish me away again. No offense, Jareth, but I kind of like not being goblin-y.

No? Am I to believe that you've grownup with nary an ill effect, then? My.

[Ildi makes a face.]

They're always nervous. 'S a human thing.

[ he doesn't want to talk about that. ]

.. Well, I don't have any urges to steal babies, anyway.

[Jareth chuckles in reply.]

This one sports streak of arrogance that any of the fae might admire. It's a pity, really.

Neither have I, boy. Make no mistake about that. But a wish is a wish, and I do what I must.

Yeah, but.. let's be real, you do seem to enjoy your job.

And why should I not?

[13hours]

Well, it's a little creepy sometimes.. [ STEALING. BABIES. wish or not, it's weird ok. ] Though I guess I can't complain, since I was rescued and all, and I had bedtime stories for years afterward.

[ plus the labyrinth dreams. ]

Ahhhh, that story was never your own, dear boy. Your darling sister needed you to be taken, and I took you. I'm afraid you'll have to take that up with her.

[He doesn't bother to address the "creepy" comment. Of course he's creepy. Incidentally, water is also wet, excepting when it isn't.]

(Beat.)

I don't blame 'em, dough. Not everybody gets ta be a talking cartoon rabbit-slash-hare who doesn't wear pants.

[ a shrug. ] She and I talked about it when I told her about the dreams. I was mad at her for maybe two seconds, but she was just a kid at the time-- [ toby it's not like you're an adult yet, you know. ] --and she risked a lot to come get me.

Her rather comical disdain for trousers aside, I daresay I agree. The girl is bored, despite all she already has. It will be her undoing, I should think.

[Jareth is not bothered by this. Such things happen to someone, somewhere, every single day, and he has lived a lot of days indeed.]

But of course. She had to grow up somehow, Toby. A girl like her could not have come to understand herself in any other way.

[She needed a quest she could actually walk through, and a battle to fight that she could actually see. For that, she'd summoned Jareth.]

[13hours]

Sarah's definitely always been a little special. [ good special. he loves his sister, even if he does tend to fade into the background a little when she's around. ] Still, jeez, pretty sure she would've grown up eventually even without a trek through the Labyrinth.

You think that, do you?

[Jareth will leave it at that. He feels little need to defend himself here. Oh, she might well have grown up, but how would it have changed her life to put it off until reality managed to leak into her in some other way? How might it have changed Toby's? There may well have been no bedtime stories for him at all if Sarah hadn't found a reason to give them when she did. Why, he might have grown up for years with a sister who couldn't ever figure out if she really hated him, or something lurking past him, a shadow that she barely understood.

And anyway, the fact remains that she did summon him, and all he could do for that was to play his role. He juggles the crystals round and round in his hand, grinning.]

[13hours]

Eventually. [ another huff, crossing his arms. ] I'm not saying it would've been the best solution or anything, but Sarah's smart.

[ smart and talented. no wonder she'd done things the way she had. ]

.. What's your writer planning to do with you, anyway?

[tomoveyourstars]

[Of course she's smart. That was why she'd been permitted to win, let alone play at all. Jareth can't be bothered with the silly, stupid ones.]

Oh, there's a little game she's fond of. She's already got a fellow there, but whether it shall suit me remains to be seen. If not --

[He holds up his free hand in a graceful, Goblin King sort of shrug.]

Not really sure many places would suit you. Seeing you out of the Underground at all is a little..

[ not really sure how to finish that. weird? confusing? a part of him's glad, because he's always felt just a little bit.. connected to the underground. but still, it's definitely strange. ]
