[She answers that grin with a somewhat sly smile of her own]

[Her smile deepens for a moment, then she changes the subject]

I want to ask how you've been, but I'm not sure that's a meaningful question.

I can almost say that it's been okay. Boring. Extremely quiet. Not being stabbed, though, so you know. It's aight.

[Aight as in not great, hardly good, but does he have the right to complain? No, not really.]

[She grimaces slightly, almost imperceptibly. Her last arena death was a particularly vicious knife in the gut, so the stabbing comment hits a little close. The look is gone in a millisecond.]

Yeah, not being stabbed is a definite plus.

Not since I dragged some chick around with a busted knee and we danced to Chopin under the stars. Mean lady. She was temperamental like you wouldn't believe, and somehow extremely considerate. Very memorable night. Couldn't forget it for the world.

[She smiles wide, amused, then tilts her head, pretending to think.]

I don't know. I did dance on a rooftop once with this one guy. Had a sadistic streak a mile wide, and delusions of grandeur. Thought he was an angel or something.

You could work with us. With the resistance. I know you don't like the fighting and the death. I also know free will is important to you. You could help us bring down the Capitol, end the tyranny.

[Maybe. Hopefully. Something has to give eventually. They can't be in control forever.]

How's that working out so far, anyway?

It's...hard. I don't remember what had happened before you...

[Died. And didn't come back. She only pauses for a fraction of a second before continuing smoothly.]

District 13 wasn't actually destroyed like the Capitol wanted us to believe. The resistance is based there. It's where I am now. It's a far cry from the luxurious life in the Capitol, but we don't have to watch what we say, or worry about being found out and sent to be tortured and Avoxed or executed.

Well, that's a plot twist. Can't say it's all that surprising, to be honest, but I didn't really expect it. [The Capitol certainly has the power to wipe a district off the map. That much he believes.]

How did you get there? How did you escape?

Sherlock. Were you there when he set himself on fire and jumped off the roof of the Tribute Tower?
