On stirring up a good ol' fashioned mutiny.
A captain that admits to having no knowledge about the station they've taken up and is willing to compromise the safety of their entire crew because it's "no fun to rest" when they're ill is not one I want to serve under. I'm not there to boost his confidence and give advice, I'm there for combat support.
Might even be able to have a ship transfer taken seriously if things change. Just a thought.

You're really serious about this.

Maybe your captain is a little more qualified for their job, but mine's been drawing on the consoles with chalk. He even told me he was too selfish to make for a good captain while asking me for advice on what he should be doing!

Hn. I don't really blame you for staging a mutiny, then.. The chalk is a bit much, but I can only guess your reaction makes for good TV? [ a beat. ] I've got nothing.

I don't know if he's angling for ratings or what, but could you imagine someone doing that on a ship or vehicle back home? They'd get their ass handed to them. [ Damaging property, being an idiot, whatever the reason be. ] I just want to be prepared for anything that might come our way. I've never had to deal with a leader quite so...
[ She trails off. Because she has a few choice word and she is at a comfortable enough place that shit-talking Wesker's leadership in the past isn't out of the question (even if his leadership was only garbage in retrospect). ]

You could still fulfill the duties that are defined by your title, right? The guy -- kid -- that's been assigned as captain of the ship I'm on can't seem to even do that.

[ She's not volunteering for this sort of responsibility, but watching more than one teenage girl get harassed (if not outright threatened) hasn't sat well with her. ]
I'm frustrated, obviously.
no subject
I can understand your frustration. Is there nobody higher in the chain of command you can approach regarding this captain?

[ She neglects to mention that it's all supposedly some reality show. It's not something that sits well with her, settling somewhere in her gut that makes her feel weighted and uncertain. ]
There are anonymous functions on the communicators they give us, at least. I can probably feel out the rest of the fleet easier that way. Not ideal, but I'll make due.

Odd. It shouldn't be that difficult to contact Command.

I'm afraid I can't comment on that. I'm unfamiliar with the term "slipstream", too. Where I come from, space travel is a really new thing. Ships and titles aren't so much.
As for the auto-pilots, they seem advanced enough that there hasn't been any issues during the two months I've been present. Command is a bit more complicated. From what I've gathered we're there as entertainment. [ No, not gathered. It was direct. A little disconcerting that they were so straightforward, at that. ] A reality show. Apparently.

Good. Older auto-pilots has a set course and reacts badly to new circumstances. That's they use AIs on larger ships, from where I am.
A reality show? How strange. I'm familiar with the term but it hardly seems appropriate in the circumstances you describe.

[ She only dabbles in so much pseudo-science. That doesn't mean it's not interesting to her, however. ]
I can't say for certain that isn't what's happening here. It's one large ship surrounded by a fleet of smaller ones. The rest can't stray too far from the main one, from what I understand? I'm not sure what that means.
[ All she can think of is that it's life support or that the main control consoles are somewhere on that main ship that no one has access to. Perhaps she'll redouble her efforts and focus on trying to enter it with the partner. ]
You're telling me. I don't think anywhere is safe from being on film, so I try not to think about it too much. Some people are already wrapped up in getting good ratings so they'll be able to afford things when we dock at planets or stations. [ Which unnerves her. She doesn't just like to roll over, even if it's for solid food or something better than a jumpsuit to wear. ] Don't suppose someone so well-versed in this sort of thing like you seem to be would have any advice on manually overriding a ship's mainframe?
no subject
I see. There much be a lot of processing power on the main ship to keep the fleet in line. I could hack into that system giving some kind of access point. My brain is the size of a small moon. I would say that's the big issue you need to sort, find some way to connect to the mainframe. It could be as little as radio signals if you have the equipment for it. However mainframes are well protected by firewalls and sub-programs. Be prepared.

[ There must be details somewhere. Speed, size, instructions on how to deal with utilities or what to do if they're under attack... It simply wouldn't make sense for something like that to be completely devoid of information. ]
I would venture it overall to be the size of a small city? I'm not really sure how many smaller ships rotate it. Four to six. Seven, maybe. Although I've heard more arrive at random. [ Great, so the hacking would have to be done... well. Not here. She's up a creek that's turned into an ocean. Maybe there's a paddle, but that's not going to do any good here. ] I know a little about hacking, so I appreciate the head's up. My partner's a bit more well-versed than I. With any luck we'll be able to pool our resources. It's really all I can think of to do about the situation right now.

Of course, I wouldn't expect anything less. I'm a big ship myself, Glorious Heritage class. Good luck with what you take on. My engineer Harper's very skilled at hacking. I can't send him over though I'm afraid.

[ This is such a bizarre conversation, but it's not that strange if she really thinks about it. Artificial intelligence isn't that far off, though perhaps not nearly as complicated (or human-like) as this.
So long as she (it?) isn't taking a swipe at her, might as well enjoy the company. ]
Glorious Heritage sounds... well, important. [ She wants to say it sounds like a cruise ship, probably a really expensive one. But that might be offensive. ] I suppose a girl can dream, right? Hopefully yours takes good care of... um. You, I guess. Probably a bit disconcerting being here, huh?

It's strange to be here on my own. I can operate on my own, but I'm missing a big part of myself. You see I'm the avatar of the Andromeda Acendant. It's easier to interact with the crew in this android form. I'm called Rommie by the way. Being without the ship though... It's disconnecting.

[ She doesn't know the guy, but somehow she always gets stuck with the ones that have this sort of sense of humor. Not too secretly (at least evident by the way one side of her mouth curves upward for all she tries to keep a more neutral appearance) she does appear to enjoy this sort of joke. How embarrassing. ]

Maybe ya should just put em outta their misery if they're not up for the job. 'specially if they're gonna be compromisin everyone. I sure as hell wouldn't stick around for none of that.

[ Which is to say that it isn't really her style. Although it is becoming more and more appealing by the day. Cooped up in a ship where everyone is being irresponsible and grating her nerves... All she can do is hope that cabin fever doesn't rear its ugly head. ]
Unfortunately, options are slim. Think the right one is to just tough it out for now, beyond seeing what I can do about the captain. But I'll keep that all in mind if it gets too frustrating.
