I suppose that I have a bias, since I think of Halloween as a dread time of sheer terror, when the veil between the worlds, it is said, wears thin and anything can slip across the better to cause chaos and strike fear into the hearts of mortal man. But... there is a certain delight and pleasure in that fear, if one can hold the fear well reined in.
