Some City called Chicago. A city that grows off your sins. And if that one falls through, it's a shadow based thing. That's just for starters. Looks like I'm getting major airtime here.

Though, some of the musebox stuff isn't so bad. {Pfft it is down right great in his book. Now if only his mun would consider games that do not mean hell for him.}

Gale... [She didn't think she'd see him again, but it isn't the first time she's been proven wrong and it won't be the last. The emotions hit her anyway.]

They all are when they want something.

Katniss.....{Gale like Katniss never thought to see her again. Yet there she is before him, he could control the wave of emotion, bottle it and hide it. If only he could not read her so clearly, see the emotions she does not express. He moves, arms nearly opening for her but stops short. Not certain he can face the rejection if she does not rush into them.}

Doesn't someone always want something. It's not a big surprise. Just have to figure out what they want and make sure they don't get it.

[Katniss stops short when he does and then swallows thickly. Just because the world's turned on its head, it shouldn't mean... that everything's changed, that her best friend isn't still whatever they are. She landed in a place called Chicago in the middle of the games. He's the first familiar face she has seen in a month.

Something about what he says makes her almost-smile, it's very Gale.]

Always. And they don't care who they go through to get it. [Pause, smirk.] How are you going to do that?

{When she moved toward it and he caught sight of the almost smile his confusion and hurt over a lot of what he had been forced to see does not vanish but it clears his head and Gale's arms open for her as he takes a step forward.

A cocky upturn of lips meets her smirk.}

A trap. Can't go through if they're stuck in place.

[Katniss hugs him back as tightly as she can, tighter than she did when she left.

Her smirk widens.]

Do you really think it'll be that simple? [Traps are simple. Hunting was simple even when it meant killing people.] You'd need something elaborate.

{Gale makes no sound of complaint. In fact he holds her tighter in response. Holdoing on more than a few moments longer than "necessary".

A half laugh escapses him. But his eyes spark, conviction in the words.}

It's never simple. But like hunting, we just have to know our prey.

[Longer than "necessary" but she doesn't mind. She knows him. Katniss pulls back in time to see the spark in his eyes, which is familiar too. Like hunting.]

We know they're relentless. They're cruel for their own entertainment. They put you in games or places like this. [Too much like the Capitol for her to stomach.] Sound familiar?

{ He has to agree, the look on his face saying it all at first. Anger, rebellion all clear till suddenly eyes lighten, a smirk curves his lips.}

Just like the Capitol. Except one thing, they don't have our families. They have nothing to hold over us.

[Katniss sees it. The look on his face is familiar to her too, and she shakes her head with a smirk of her own but then swallows, nodding, grateful at that reminder.]

That's the one... difference. The best difference. [Worry hits her again, and she hadn't asked before because she almost didn't want to know the answer.] They're okay, right? Our families?

{There is a flicker in his gray eyes for just one moment. His stomach clenches but Gale has asked this question already and he is not sure why but he believes the answer.}

They're safe. They are where the Capitol and our muns can't get them. I think as long as you and I are here and they are using us then our families will stay safe.

{Or at least that is what he is told. Mun skimmed details in that answer a little...

[Katniss is watching his expression carefully, because she knows him. She would be able to tell if he was lying, but he's not.]

Okay. I can live with that.

[It's the alternative that she can't live with.

Gale, even without our families to use against us, they can still force you to go places, do things to you. [And she's worried.]

{He watches her expression, eyes studying her face and it gets to him immediately because those words are like a knife in his chest. He has not yet experienced the games these people play but something in her eyes tells him Katniss has.

Gale takes ahold of her shoulders.

[OOC: And hey if you were ever looking for a game for him, I'd be happy to have a Gale in that game or we could even PSL sometime. c:]

[Katniss doesn't want to tell him that there is no outsmarting his Mun, and he is smart. He fights, but there's no hope. There's no amount of talent or rebellion that can stop him from being thrown somewhere that's probably dangerous. And she wants him to be safe.]

I'm fine, Gale. [Automatic response that not even she believes. She feels bad about it a second later.]

They took me from the middle of the games and dropped me in this place called Chicago. There's no way back.

{OOC: I am definitely considering the game I'd love to play him some where besides here. And I am always up for a PSL.}

{But then she continues and his eyes narrow. Fingers on one hand curl. He relaizes Katniss does not know some of the things he does as he was yanked from home right after the announcement for the Quarter Quell was made. And she is alone in some strange place. His voice does not falter but it is clear he is trying to keep it that way.}

But there is a way in. You're alone there?

[That is awesome. :3 and PSLs are also always something we could try, set in the canon itself.]

[There's a pause and anger that's not really at him because she knows he's right.] I'm alive.

[For a long time, it was all there was. In the games, it was all there was. It is clear. Katniss recognizes it immediately, wondering what he's keeping from her. She shakes her head, remembering the destruction and death that she landed in the middle of. Her gaze drifts to his hand on hers before she looks up at him again, insisting, not answering.]

I want you safe, Gale.

{ooc: I am game whenever you are!}

{As always her fire seems to ignite his, it is not her he is angry at as he drops her hand and drags his own through his hair.} Alive is not the same as okay.

{In the next breath she simmers him down rather she meant to or not and he takes her hand again.}

If we're together there we both stand a better chance. I want the same thing for you that you do me.

[OOC: Awesome! We shall discuss this. Like either pre-series or near the end of the last one.]

[Katniss presses her lips together in a thin line but she... once again knows he's right, which is frustrating, but she's not about to admit that she's not okay. Even if she's not.] It's close enough.

[She swallows and looks down at their hands before she forces her self to look back up at him. Katniss wants to see him again, more than anyone other than Prim. But she doesn't want him to be hurt or killed.]

There's no way back home once you get here, Gale. You're stuck. You wouldn't see your family again.

{OOC: Either or works for me, I'm up to discuss it when ever you would like.}

{She does not have to admit it, he knows it, he can see it in the expression in her eyes, the slight shifts of her form. Even in that way she looks to their hands then back to him.

He can almost read the thoughts before they are spoken outloud. He comes so close to saying what is on his mind. That none of it matters, he will have her. The Games, The Capitol will not be able to break them any further. He will miss his family, he will worry about them, the same as she will her own. But, he wants to see her, desperately.]

Could be stuck worse places and if there is any chance of finding a way out, two sets of eyes are better than one.

{Meaning, she is not going to change his mind, not even with the weight of not seeing his family again. He is coming to her this time, he is not going to let anything stop him.]

[He would know. Gale knows her better than anyone else. You spend enough time hunting with someone, and you start to learn everything from what they look like when they're not okay to what their path would be in the woods.

Katniss doesn't say anymore about it since she realizes that... he knows.

She can't deny that she wants to see him again. When she hugged him before she was pulled from his side, she thought she would never see him again. Katniss remembers sitting there at night, thinking about him, wishing she could talk to him again and knowing she wouldn't be able to.]

...that's true. [She knows he's not going to change his mind so she's only left to accept it.] It's not safe here, Gale, but it's... there isn't a Capitol here.

It's something.

No starvation hanging over our heads, no Capitol, that's two things already going in the right direction.

{He had wondered after that hug but there was a part of him that knew she would survive. Katniss was not weak and her will to live for her family and those she cared about was an amazing thing. Gale trusted in it, he knew she would come back.

He just never realized what it would take for her to survive. But, one thing he will be grateful for in all this, that they can be together again. They can talk over things they way they used to, maybe find a place to hunt. Simple things, that brought back memories of times he was happy.}
