Guess who finally read The Search? (Spoilery in comments)
I must admit... I am thankful you took the time to show this to me, mundane. You have allowed me to put many worries about my family to rest. That said... I am not sure how to feel about how things unfolded. I suppose the fault ultimately lays on my head. Had I seen what Sozin was becoming, and acted sooner, none of this would have had to happen...
But, there is no point in dwelling on that. All I can do now is rest, knowing that things have worked out for the best in the end.

Except when the Avatar fails to see something obvious to the rest of the world, the world suffers for it.

Well, yeah, but you're not the first Avatar to make that kind of mistake and you won't be the last. It's a part of life. The Avatar isn't infallible. If he was, there wouldn't be a need for the Avatar in the first place.

You are right. I cannot change what has happened, I can only take comfort that Aang was able to bring balance back to the world.

[Wan's words were contemplative, not harsh.]
His actions brought peace which, yeah, it corrected the chaos that began with your death. But Balance is more than that.
[He trailed off before sighing sadly and then cracking a rueful smile.]
Aang did a lot of good. And he will go on to do a lot of good for the world. It's just that balance is more than the four nations not being at war anymore. Peace is not the same as balance.
[Another moment and then he was waving his hands.]
Sorry! I don't mean to talk down what he did. I'm really proud of him!

That is definitely something I can identify with. At times, it feels like the world is balancing on the point of a needle, and all it would take is one misplaced breath to send it toppling over the edge.
Aang has accomplished so much, and even after passing the title of Avatar to Korra, he continues to be a lasting influence on our world. I think all of our lives are proud of him, Avatar Wan.

[He grinned back.]
Titles don't have a place between us. Titles don't have much of a place at all, really, but Raava's big on them so...
[Wan shrugged, spreading his hands.]
I tend to oblige when it fells like it might matter. This isn't one of those times.

Considering you paid the ultimate price for having trusted him, I'm thinking you're off the hook, sir. No offense.

Yes, everything worked out for the best.
