I believe you have better things to do than edit the script I produced. What was once a grand tragedy worthy of the stage is now disgusting love story that won't produce the reaction I want from the audience. It's not worthy of me either, Mundane. Really, she's nothing more than a side character that should be tossed away like all the others.

[But this is a side character with a form of Death attached to her. You can't really kill her unless you want to eliminate death, or rush to your own before the tragedy in this particular setting takes place. Or do you want Humans to live, Legato?

That would just cause Legato to glare out at the audience here.]

I don't. They're worthless, disgusting piles of rotting trash. We have been over this before.

[Then let her live. If you wish for death, you should do that. Plus, you seem to like her. And she does make delicious pastries, doesn't she?]

It's not your fault. Our Mundanes should be apologizing for editing the script like this.

That does seem to be what they like to do for the most part. They're the puppeteers and we're the puppets and all that...

That doesn't mean they should edit the script so that it suits neither the setting, the characters in it, or the wants of the audience.

[Except that this is exactly what certain members of the audience want. It's just not what Legato wants for the audience. A tragedy where a certain superior being was much better to him than a love story where he was happy. And a love story involving him?

..His hatred of humans was really going to make this an awkward script, at best. At least, in his mind.]

Your sweets are wonderful at dulling the pain of living, but..this is a script that neither I or the owner of the theater can approve of.

I guess they just think that it does suit all of that. Certainly the wants of the audience in this case.

Perhaps. Sometimes, the actors can have some influence on what it put down into the script. But why does it sadden you that I find living painful? And..I am glad that you'll continue to make desserts for me, but..would it be possible to have an act where you show me how to make them?

Why...? Hm... Because I find living to be joyful, I suppose. It hurts sometimes, but that's the thing about life- Even if times are painful, there's always the possibility of things looking up again and you can move on and learn from the bad times too. And of course, I'd be more than happy to do that. [She smiles.]

I'm a pretty strict teacher though, especially when it comes to the art of making dessert. [Serious business look, go!... For about five seconds before she laughs. That was a joke.]

[Legato, not really catching the joke, was about to smile and say that he could be a quick insect when it came to learning lessons, even if he would have to be squashed someday..but that quickly faded when Minako started laughing. She probably would be able to catch the short-lived smile on his face though.]

It seems we'll both be alright during that act then, whenever it manages to get into the script. However, if one is causing bad times to happen, not just to ones self, but to everyone, plants and rats alike, shouldn't they be eliminated? While there are things that can dull it, living is painful, and it's gunk-covered junk that causes it to be so painful. If every rodent was exterminated, it would get rid of the pain that life carries for those who should survive.

[Legato... dating? Does not compute. Give Vash... a couple hours.]

And... this girl... is doing this... willingly? [This has got to be some kind of mind control thing, right? Totally.]

[For once, Legato's and Vash's reactions weren't all that different. Which was scary, really. While it was probably for different reasons, he would need a year to get through this script.]

The production is still in it's early stages..but yes, in the script that she's doing this willingly. I am not forcing her hand, and neither is anyone else. The whole production takes place before you kill me too, so they're really destroying my wonderful script.

[That last sentence was both a jab at Vash in order to try and get him to suffer a little bit more-honestly, he needed to see that right now-and an honest statement.]

[Unfortunately, saying this was happening before his death actually pleases Vash. It's better that way. Besides, he's still really stunned by this new information.]

[..It's a rare day when Legato can't injure Vash with some old memory and when they're having similar reactions.]

I don't know how changing the genre of the play from a wonderful tragedy to a romance will help me or My Master. Even if the rest of the production doesn't change, it will lessen the pain and anguish that is supposed to come out of it, and the message I wish to convey won't get through.

Ah, you worry too much about plays. Take some time to yourself! You've earned it! She seems pretty nice and super cute! The play will still be here when you're done! [His hope is Legato will learn to NOT go back to it.]

The production I wish to put on the stage will never go on if I ignore it for a revised play that's no longer a tragedy. If I did so, it would not only displease me. My Master would be annoyed as well.

I am curious as to how you think I've earned a play like this though, Vash the Stampede.

I'm not saying to completely forget it. [Although that's what he's hoping will happen in the end.]

And you deserve it because everyone needs a break now and then! More so for people as loyal as you. Gives your brain a chance to rest and come back to a project with new ideas! [PEACEFUL ones is Vash's hope once again.]

If I take an unneeded and unwanted break from this play, it will rot away in a heap of other productions that people say they are going to put on stage someday. This tragedy cannot suffer the same fate. And nor do I require or wish for a break from it.

However..it would be interesting to have you meet her. A bit of extra sympathy would make the climax all the worse for you. Especially if she witnessed it. [Legato, that's not how you treat your partner.]

It might not! No really! I bet if you took a break from it, it will give you a much better perspective on how to make it better! You should really do that.

And I wouldn't mind meeting her, but not like that.

If I stepped away from it, even for a little while, not only would the production start to crumble, but I would betray my Master too. Even in this ridiculous edit, I will not go against him, and nor will I step away from your suffering.

But that would be a wonderful moment for you two to meet. You would suffer even more because of her if you didn't decide to finally realize the truth, and she would suffer because not only would she learn the truth, but she would see you shoot me right in the head.

[That mental image..it was much better than the sickening script his Mundane had been penning before. It was far, far sweeter, and Legato wouldn't help but smile a little at the thought.]

I shall have to see if I can work that edit into this disgusting script. It would be a major improvement for everyone.

I do. That was an entertaining conversation, and playing that game did dull some of the pain of living, along with your sweets. She did agree to teach me how to bake desserts so that I wouldn't have to keep wandering out unnecessarily to restaurants.

However, it would be nice for both my Master and I if this edit were to go through. You would suffer even more because you wouldn't just kill me. You would break the heart of a woman in love, a person who was already suffering because she found out the truth. And since she wouldn't die in that act, she would continue to suffer until her curtain finally fell.

[It would take Legato a few moments to answer that question. She was a human, a loathsome, worthless piece of garbage that should be disposed of. Even if she acted nice, she was just like him-just like the rest of them, really.

But the script said that she was a stubborn person, one who wouldn't leave him alone. An irritating rodent who would keep coming back and sharing food and experiences with him. Even if he hated her, she wouldn't ignore him, and he couldn't dispose of her. A superior being was attached to her.

Did the superior being attached to her make her better than the others, even only slightly?]

I don't know. It's too early to say, and even if I did, I wouldn't hesitate to put her in the climax.

[Honestly, he might not fully understand what romantic love feels like. Sure, he had a bit of parental love when he was young-even if that did turn sour-and he was devoted to Knives, but he hadn't been in love before. He wasn't interested enough in anyone to feel the emotion.]

Well, I hope that the two of you have a great time together. You may find something new in all of this in the end.

[Vash isn't sure what this other girl is thinking. Being attracted to someone like Legato, but Vash will be happy if they both make each other happy. He would have never believed it without seeing it, but it seems like there could be someone out there for everyone.]

I hope I simply learn how to make pastries and create a better climax for the tragedy. I'm not interested in romance or sweet love stories. I'm interested in seeing her cry and scream when you manage to pull the trigger so that you can face even more misery and guilt in the falling action. That would be for the best.

[Legato wasn't sure what anyone here was thinking, the girl or the Muns. It was all completely ridiculous and far-fetched to him. It didn't help that the genre of this particular production was something he never wanted and wouldn't be able to get behind. At least, not for a very, very long time, if something in it actually managed to work at all.]

Could you stop focusing on misery for two seconds and think about your own happiness, please?
