I've found trusting mundanes to be a tenuous idea, but they are not all cruel. I think the best you can do is give them a chance, but prepare for the worst until you know each other better.

[He offered out a hand.]

You can call me Lava. I've not met anyone quite like you before, but my guess is you have never met anyone quite like me.

[A bold statement for someone human-passing, but he sounded certain.]

[She eyes his hand somewhat warily; most people are scared by blue women with yellow eyes. But he's being polite, and she does have manners.

Raven reaches out and shakes his hand, firmly.]

And the worst is kind of what I'm afraid of. I don't know her, I don't know what she's going to do or even if she intends to do them. It's kind of annoying.

[He's completely at ease with her. He didn't even seem to have the morbid curiosity in his eyes that some humans would have who had good intentions.]

Well I suppose it depends on if you ever met a non-human before, and I mean that as in not being born to humans.

For the most part all mundanes can do is drop us into particular situations. With an odd exception here or there we have full control of how we react.

[That's new. Her head tilts in enquiry - one thing at a time.]

[Her curiosity isn't morbid, though it's serious.]

I am a being known as an Abian. At least in my world we contribute to stories of such creatures as the wendigo and the vampire. However we are not simply some undead human. We are something different entirely.

Our senses are more fine-tuned than humans along with a few other differences specific to our survival. It was how I could tell right away you were human.

[He talked about this easily. Even if he wasn't really judging her based off her appearances Mystique seemed like someone who would take the information well.]

I'm not human. At least, I'm not human in the way that most of them are.

[What kind of world does he come from, anyway? And what the hell is a wendigo? Vampires, well, maybe she could buy that, but the rest. Hey, it's nice to not be alone.]

Yes I can see the obvious differences and I'm sure there's some not-so-obvious differences as well.

[His dress would suggest he's form a modern world at the very least.]

I wouldn't say I'm used to this, but I have been around my mundane long enough to understand the situation as well as his intentions and that of the other mundanes.

Some are cruel, this is true of any sentient species I think, but others have a legitimate interest and curiosity with us. It doesn't make this right, but it might be a good diversion for some. Especially since we will be put back right where we were taken from when they are done. Our obligations or goals will be right there for us.

I can tell you might actually like it here. A blue woman with potentially peculiar abilities is far from the strangest type of person in this place. I've seen ghosts, demons, superheroes, aliens and all other sorts in this particular area alone.

[After a distinct pause to consider his next words he says,]

I do however know what it is to have your trust in someone who then broke it with their actions.

Let's just say I have some seriously recessive genes that all manifested at once. [Red hair isn't common, either, but it's the last thing most people notice about her - and she doesn't keep it in her standard human appearance, when she takes it. It stings, a little, to speak of her mutation that way. She can almost hear Charles in her head when she says it.]

And I don't think they're peculiar, but I guess your mileage might vary, if you've seen everything you say you have. I just… I can't be sure of her. Why me? What does she want? I mean, yeah, it's comforting to know I can get back to saving the damned world from itself, but come on - now is not really a great time, you know?

[And then her expression closes.]

Yeah? Were you stupid enough to give that trust to someone else, only to have them do the same thing?

Is that how you want to talk about it? It sounds so clinical putting yourself in those terms.

Well my guess is she finds your story compelling in some way. Maybe she identifies with you in some way? She might just think you are an interesting person to look into. It all depends on the person. The goals are as varied as the people too. Some want to drop us into uncomfortable situations, some just want to see us talk to new individuals or talk with old individuals in a new setting.

[He gave a tense smile at the question.]

I haven't had the chance to make the mistake twice. I suppose we'll have to see if the bit of trust I'm putting in you is misplaced.

No, but… that's all it is. Science and evolution leaping ahead before the rest of the world is ready for us.

I-- maybe. To be honest, I don't think she knows what she wants to do, only that she has this bizarre urge to attempt to put me out in the multiverse. Whatever that is.

[Haaa, that expression, she knows.]

Well, don't. It sucks, big time. [A shrug.] I guess we will. But unless you're going to kill me, I have no real reason to betray that trust - and you did kind of give it pretty easily.

It certainly is evolution, but humans don't talk about themselves like that. It sounds a little demoralizing to put it that way. As long as you know the science and talk about it when science is the subject I don't see any harm in putting a more proud word to it.

Well this place is a multiverse, a place where various universes all float together so to speak. You might even see a different version of yourself.

It's only a little trust at the moment. Just enough to mention that in my own universe I do own an establishment you are welcome to come to if you want to relax for a while. It's called the Lava Lounge. It's a place where many different people can come to have a good time without worrying about outside perceptions.

You don't. Muns don't give us reasons to trust them, and so it's completely blind. It's not something we can do much about as far as getting a show of trust from them, but we can at least try to keep them from getting to us.

Mine really doesn't get what I can do, either, even if she gets the theories and some of the science, and... it's working out okay, but we're going slowly. Maybe take it step by step? It's just a thought. [He bites back any comments on her appearance because if he blurts out her eyes are pretty she'll disregard his advice entirely. Gah. What are social skills?]

Like I said, I'm not exactly human. I'm a mutant. It would be a source of pride if people weren't so intent on killing us out of fear.

More than one of me? Like, a clone? Is that even possible?

Yeah, how did I know that was gonna be the standard answer. It just seems beyond cruel, after everything else I've dealt with, to be at the whim of someone who barely understands me.

[But since that is, apparently, the standard response, she focuses on the other things he's said.]

Then if the term mutant makes you happy call yourself a mutant. People won't be trying to kill you here for it.

Basically the multiverse allows for universes that are very different from our own, but also ones almost the same. It could be you from another time or perhaps it will be a universe where you took a different course of action during some event. The timeline of world events could be different.

An unpleasant true answer is better than me lying to you, isn't it?

It's... she calls it aerokinesis. Takes out the science from it and when you do that you ignore the ways it can go catastrophically wrong. It's manipulation of the air, basically. And if that sounds benign, please picture a hurricane for a moment.

I don't really know what makes me happy right now. But I guess anything is better than freak.

[That... is a lot to take in.]

I don't have the control to do 'baby' anything. It's always on the kind of scale that something gets wrecked. I keep telling my mun I really should just stay where I was so I don't have any accidents, but she doesn't listen. So here I am.
