I still don't get why you're so excited to throw me at these "Heartless" things--I'll fight them, of course I will, they can't be allowed to hurt people, but I am starting to notice a theme--but the street art sounds like a lot of fun. Is there any way we could stop the Heartless before they really get going and give more time to committing petty vandalism?

One of the people I share the headspace met up with those 'Heartless' awhile ago. From the stories she's told me, I'd suggest you be careful, Captain. If they're similar to the ones she encountered, they can do more than just commit minor crimes.

I'm given to understand that we're only dealing with the weakest of them, but even the weakest only need one lucky shot when we all have our souls on the outside. I'll definitely be keeping my eyes peeled.

Your souls... [Her eyes widen in shock as she considers what that could possibly mean.] What - what have they done to you there?

It's--when you first get to the main world in this place, your soul pops out in the form of an animal. It has a name and it talks like a person, but you can't get too far apart from each other or you both start to hurt. All living people have them, apparently, but in most worlds they stay inside you where they belong.

It's real dangerous and more than a little scary, but you get someone at your side you can't ever lose. I honestly think it's a small price to pay for the chance to see and learn from whole other worlds.

That's better than some of the things I was considering. [All the research her mundane's been working on in regards to horror games has her slightly on edge, worried about what might happen to the Steves she's met here. And what might happen to her, too.]

It sounds painful at first, but I can see how it would be a comfort to have someone like that at your side. [It's something she could almost envy after some of the things she'd been through.] It would be exciting to see places like that. To learn about things we think are impossible in our reality.

Yeah, I hear there are some pretty rough places out there, but this one's nice. It's like a proper adventure story, with monsters and magic and angels and aliens, and there's even a fella from a world where dragons are in the military. The dangers are--well, like I mentioned, pretty substantial--but at least they're not all we have to deal with.

I haven't been to a place like that yet. The one I visited before...it was a dream world, but it only seemed to bring out the worst dreams. I would have liked a real adventure compared to that. I'm not used to being idle.

[She smiles gently as she looks up at him, still worried, but also relieved that he's found a place where he fits in.] I'm glad you're happy, Steve. I've worried about what might happen to you after...everything.

[Steve has to smile back: it's Peggy, and she worries about him. He could probably live another hundred years and still have a soft spot for her at the very least.] I won't say it's easy this early on, but it really does help having people to look after. Gives me less time to wallow in not having you and the fellas around. Your mun really wants to take care of you, she'll find you something like that, a place that keeps you busy when you need it.

[And she would always care about him, no matter what might happen to her. When he mentions not having her around, a very faint blush colors her cheeks, but she resists the temptation to glance away.] I'm sure that you'll find another team to support you. And perhaps some you know might show up eventually.

She's been trying to find a place, but we haven't had much luck. Most seem to see me as a relic of the past.

[Peggy Carter blushing. Now there's a sight he never thought he'd see.] Strange as my life is anymore, I wouldn't be too surprised.

If they think being from the past is a bad thing, they haven't been learning much in history class. Give 'em a good kick in the pants the way you did us army boys and they'll get over themselves soon enough.

[The blush is accompanied by one of the smiles that she'd always had to keep hidden from Steve whenever he'd done something that had been completely unexpected and usually annoyed their commanding officers.]

But it's not nearly as much fun giving those youngsters a kick as it was tormenting you army boys. There was always something particularly satisfying about teaching someone like Hodges some manners. Though, I do regret that lesson I taught you when you found your shield.

My mun tells me that these Heartless creatures are quite small. I suggest a spear -- you can kill many at once and then fling their corpses back at their comrades. It helps instil fear.

I... don't think we actually have any spears on hand, and I don't know whether Heartless actually feel fear, but if the two happen to coincide it sounds like a valid plan.

...why would your mun ever put you in a place where there were no spears on hand? That's a terrible thing to do.

I think she was more interested in soul animals and traveling between worlds than in making sure I got a weapon for every scenario under the sun.

I see.

[Hm. She thinks about it for a moment, because this really is an act of self sacrifice.]

...You may borrow my second best spear. If you need one.

[Aw, nothing says love like weapon sharing.]

If I need to borrow yours, I'll be sure to take very good care of it.

[She clears her throat. That is the Nordic God equivalent of scuffing your shoe on the ground and blushing. Except for Fandral. He already does all of those things.]

I could show you how to use it. If you like.

[Oh, so Fandral's claims of dashingness are propaganda. Got it. Meanwhile, Steve is nice and oblivious because throat-clearing = totally normal and he's used to being treated like one of the guys.]

That'd be great, actually. I'm sure I could figure out the basics on my own, but I always prefer to learn from someone who knows what they're doing.

[Oh, Steve. Conversely, Sif is grinning like she is going to eat the good Captain alive. Which is a possibility.]

Excellent. I have a favor to ask in return.

[Okay, that's... not encouraging, but Steve can play it cool! Ish.]

[Sif stands up a bit straighter – which you may not have thought was possible, but there it is.]

You are born of this city, are you not?

It's changed a bit since I was a kid, but I still know how to find everything important.

[Very well, then. She flexes her fingers, unconsciously.]

I...do not particularly like this city. I find it loud in a false way. Everyone is very concerned with things that matter little. But as I shall be here for some time, I would like to know the land better.

You are the only team member with a connection to this place, so I would appreciate it if you would accompany me on something of a tour.
