Cutie Mark?

Yea, you know! That special mark everypony gets that shows what their special talent is. I’ve been tryin’ super hard to get mine but my sister and her friends all say it takes patience. [Small pout]

Can't you have a talent without it?

'Course. You just gotta find that one secret special talent that you're better at than every other pony! What's yours?

Well, for one thing I'm not a pony. For another, you're way too cute even without a 'Cutie' Mark.

My talent is for scaring.

Come to think of it you are pretty different lookin'. [Oh well, who was she to judge?] That's a uh ... interesting talent. Oh! If you were to have a Cutie Mark, I bet'cha it'd be somethin' really scary, like a ghost!

...What's a cutie mark?

It's that something special that makes everypony unique! Everypony in my class already has one. Well, 'cept Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo. We're all trying to get our Cutie Marks together.

I don't have any marks. I don't need 'em, because I can do this.

[And he taps her briefly, taking on her colours.]

Whoa! [Her eyes grow big with wonder as she runs in circles around him] That's incredible! How'd you do it? Unicorn magic? Some secret ancient spell?

[And he shakes the colouring off, back to his regular purple and blue.]

I'm Applebloom! Nice to meet ya, um... [She tilts her a head a bit. What was his name?]

[Sorry, Applebloom. He doesn't accept the hoof. His tone is cool and rather unfriendly.]

I'm Randall.

[She lowers the hoof, a bit confused. It's okay, he probably isn't used to dealing with ponies. Trying to ignore the rude behavior, she happily presses on]

So are you a dragon? [He walks on two legs and is purple just like another reptile she knows] I know a baby dragon named Spike. Have ya heard of him?

No, I don't know any dragons. I'm a monster.

Who told you that? [She still thinks he's a dragon. He's just ... confused with a bad self image]

.... Everybody?

[He lives in a monster world. Everyone's a monster, so he's not thinking it's some sort of insult.]

Well, I don't think yer a monster! [Kind smile]

[There's an exasperated noise.]

But I am a monster. You thinking otherwise doesn't change that fact.

I guess so. [A defeated look, but only for a moment]. Big sis says it's all about how you think of yourself. We just gotta change your outlook is all.

[Very cynical.]

And how do you intend to do that?

[Okay. Tough question]

Oh, I know! You must think you're a monster 'cause you've done something bad. All you have'ta do now is something really good!

Monsters don't do good.

Unless they're a wimp.

Then you can be first non-whimpy monster to do good. Don't worry, Randall, you're pal Apple Bloom will help you out.

Let me get this straight. You like being a mean monster?

But don't you get lonely? [Because being a mean and nasty monster suggests he doesn't have many friends]

Why should I? I have plenty to do and other monsters look up to me.

So, kind of like a special purpose?

That sounds exactly what I've been looking for! Well without the cutie mark part, Just the trying to find something special that makes me unique.

Oh, Applebloom. You'll find somewhere with a little patience. Just like you'll get your Cutie Mark if you give it some time.

[She smile a little, sympathetic to the little pony's situation.]

Since other people have asked the pre-requisite "what the heck is a cutie mark" question, I'll lob one out there.

Would the place even matter? You'll find your talent when you find it. I doubt the place will affect it much.
