The biggest damn thing you've ever seen. (

[On identities, Belgians, and Canadians]
... yeah, I don't see that happening. You yourself said you like me as I am, that meaning you don't have any other reason to change anything else about me. Besides, I like my name, and I generally like how I look; and from the looks of it, so do you. Why, then, are you thinking 'bout things you don't even want to do anyway? Get a grip and forget about it. You said so yourself: you're not doing it.
Now, with that said.
I get you want to see me plummet the Belgians and all, but you do got a thing called sleep to do too, right? Look, I don't blame you for pretty much living at the other side of the world okay maybe a little since I kinda want to see how it'll go too. I guess you can wake up early or something, but only if you get some rest. I don't want you dozing off in the middle of the game, y'know-- just because I don't care much about soccer doesn't mean I don't got any intention on winning at all.
Don't bring up statistics, you know just as well as I do that this World Cup is pretty fucked up.
Lastly, shout-out to a certain brother of mine celebrating a very special day for him!I demand half of the cake I just know you're gonna get, by the way. It's only fair, you know it.
EDIT: God damn it Belgium.
Now, with that said.
Lastly, shout-out to a certain brother of mine celebrating a very special day for him!

[That's about all the consideration you'll get out of her, Alfred.
Just don't ask how well her team did.]Cookie? [She offers some, though they seem more intended for a certain brother of yours.]
no subject
[He may not be really keeping track of the World Cup, but he's certainly heard enough about England's situation. Not to worry, though-- he does have more tact than that.
Upon setting sights upon the pastries, he gives few rapid blinks in his confusion.]
Huh... you sure you don't got the wrong person for these?
[Half-joking is the nature of the tone he takes, but he nevertheless takes one anyway. Food is food, after all.]
no subject
[A beat.]
A jest.
I made more than enough to spare one or two.
And as for your prior comment, that is a good way to look at it.
no subject
[It hasn't happened, but he certainly wouldn't like to be mistaken for his own brother under any circumstances.]
And hey, I like to keep a positive outlook about it! We'll probably do better next time too, who knows?
no subject
[She gracefully picks up a cookie.]
And when a positive outlook no long is sufficient, well, that's what booze is for, yes?
[CHOMP]
no subject
[And it's only now he takes a bite into his own cookie.]
Though I'm not that desperate 'bout the whole game, really. Soccer's never been much of my thing anyway.

Ah, and before you ask, we had nothing to do with the tropical storm. I can personally profess that I haven't said an incantation so far this year.
no subject
... and you do realize bringing that up out of the blue sounds real suspicious, doesn't it?
[He raises an eyebrow in effect, but it's not one of seriousness in the least-- magic is a fictitious thing, an unscientific thing, and his belief in it was mostly non-existent.]
no subject
I should work on that, then.
[Whether or not that means making herself looking less and more conspicuous is not being said.]

Sounds like my little Albion.

[The woman certainly strikes him as unfamiliar, as is the name she uses. Alfred may have some idea of the histories of nations before his time, but he can't be expected to know it that well.]

You're not getting half of her cake now, fyi. You're the worst brother.]no subject
[corrects her glasses]
Have you been having a day of it?
no subject
Erm, excusez-moi, but a day of "it"?
no subject
[Her tone is apologetic, though she doesn't say the words.]
Well, today is Canada Day, non? Er... that is what you call Dominion Day now.
[I mean, a part of why it's a holiday was because of her...]
no subject
"It" isn't very specific, you see. I wasn't sure if you meant my birthday or Alfred's forgetfulness, in case you overheard.
no subject
I try not to overhear. It is impolite.
[Which isn't to say that she didn't mind you.]
Ah, yes. I prepared you some cookies for you and Matthew. I hope you like them.
[See? She can be considerate when she wants to be... but... she's still very very awkward about it. Ugh.]
no subject
[ Though her smile doesn't fade, she makes a quiet little sound and taps her bottom lip thoughtfully. ] Oh, and...why would I call it Dominion Day now? That changed in 1982.
[ But as usual she still doesn't seem particularly bothered by the mistake; she's too accustomed to small errors like that. Besides, Madeleine's happier to turn her attention to those cookies, picking one up. ]
Thank you, ma'am! [ And she takes a bite of it ]
no subject
[The reason why she remembers it as Dominion Day is simple: her pride]
Ah... I made them myself.
[And she takes some pride in her cookie-making and likes to share them with people she likes. And children.]
no subject
[ She smiles as she chews; they tasted too good to be store-bought. ]
They're wonderful! [ She's actually going to go ahead and grab a second, don't mind her. ]
no subject
[Ahh flatery. The quickest way to Alice's good graces.]
Ah... thank Madeli-- Madeleine.
Do be sure to share with your brother. Though I hope at your pace there will be enough to do so.
[A small tease.]
no subject
[ She grins at the correction; she does appreciate that. ]
Don't worry, I might leave him one or two.
[ But she's teasing right back. ]
no subject
google was mostly where I found those pics))[Subtle as always, Alice at first doesn't catch on. She's too used to dealing with Alfred and Amelia.]
Ah--! You really shouldn't eat so many--
[Then it dawns on her.]
Ah! I see...
(Silly Alice, if you paid closer attention to Matthieu and Madeleine you would be able to know that better.)
no subject
[ There's a quiet laugh when Alice doesn't catch the jest, though she takes a moment to reply properly. ]
Don't worry; I'll leave plenty for Matthieu.
no subject
[She flushes and tries to regains her composure. She's inwardly kicking herself for not spending the time with both them to recognize those nuances.]
[Besides, if she knows how to be that subtle, it could be fun to try to intuit what was really being said. Or frustrating as hell.]
That's good. I am glad.
[...]
Have you two been well?
no subject
[ Madeleine's always been adept at being subtle; besides, who would ever expect the quiet wallflower who so often kept her words pressed to her lips like a good girl to be the one who could jest and scorn deftly enough that Alice is far from the only one who hasn't immediately picked up her meaning? Madeleine had learned how to be a lady from the best.
The main difference is simply that Madeleine intended Alice to know. ]
Besides issues back home, we have been. And yourself?
no subject
[In fact, she gives the girl's questions some metered thought. The natural inclination was to dismiss it politely, as she had, but this was the time to make things a bit more adult, wasn't it? She owed Madeli--er--Madeleine that, at least.]
Most of the same. My boss has been divisive as usual. There are talks that my firefighters are going on strike again. We're keeping an eye on the events in Israel and Iraq. And so on.
no subject
[ She is a bit surprised that Alice doesn't actually dismiss the returned question, but it doesn't show on her face very much. Instead, she listens politely and offers an sympathetic smile. ]
I had heard they had gone on strike...why was it, exactly? I hadn't caught the reason when I heard of it.
no subject
They are in contention with the prospect of increasing the retirement age from 55 to 60. The reason for their dissension is they can be dismissed for failing to meet a physical which allows them to continue working. The firefighters believe that this new policy is a blatant attempt to prevent them from being able to receive the pensions they are owed.
They have been on strike before over this, but this will be the first time they have for a full 24 hours.
no subject
I do hope things will be settled peacefully.
sorry for lateness. long week was long u_u
[Serious and dry, as always.]
no worries!
...as their nation, shouldn't you be hoping for--I don't know--the opposite of that?
no subject
Ah--hmn? Why would I want them to die?
[She thinks she added a "doesn't" in there somewhere. While definitely the mun's fault, the mun will chalk it to the fact that it's 3 days to a very uncomfortable day for Alice.]
