But, I guess it's hard to argue that if I was 'canon', Steve would know about me now. Well, Steve and Tony. Not sure who would be more upset about that. The thing is, though, for all the plot bunnies in your head right now? There are much, much bigger things going on that are much more important than me. I am a footnote at this point in the grand scheme of things.

Let's just. Go back to ignoring me, okay? I don't really want to know what would happen if you got any of your ideas got off the ground.

I'm a hologram. Buttons don't turn me off, sir. Not all AIs work under the same principles and - [Saul sighs, tapping Steve on the shoulder so he could turn around and face him man to man. Sometimes being hard-light had its perks - like being able to alert someone to the fact you just appeared behind them.] - Tony would explain this better but he's not here, so.

You are one of Stark's?.... Tony's? [It felt weird to call him by his first name, but he supposed after New York they were on a first name basis]

Hi.... Just Steve.... I haven't really gotten used to the whole sir thing yet. Who are you?

That's... a more complicated question to answer. My name is Saul Navidson, but I was created by Howard Stark and a friend of his. They wanted to make a hard-light hologram that could be sustainable and contain an AI. [He rubs at his temples, though he doesn't get headaches. It's a dead-on recreation of what Howard would do. Like a child, Saul had picked up on the habits of his creators, from their quirks to some of their dislikes, but was definitely not either of them.]

They needed a base for my appearance. I changed it a little later - darkening, lightening, contrasts, textures - but they needed something to base everything off of in the first place. Howard insisted on using your image as my base.

He... he valued his friends. But he couldn't keep them. So he incorporated them into some of his AIs.

Why does that not surprise me? Although it is nice to know that Howard thought me a friend, but I have to admit that it is a little strange to be staring at yourself.

Is it strange for you?

It's... odd, yeah. When I was younger I idealized you a lot, kind of like the big brother I never had. Thankfully we're past that point in my life, but yeah, this is weird.

But you're not staring at yourself. I'm my own person. Not legally speaking - holograms are property, not people in the eyes of the law - but I'm not you. Trust me, Howard made it very clear I was a let down when it comes to personality. I tried. I really did. But I just don't have it in me to be anyone but who I am.

What do you actually do here?

He was, actually. At least at first. Things changed, after a while.

I don't really have a job, in the traditional sense. I manage technical info and keep the numbers right within the company, but no one knows that but JARVIS and, now, presumably Tony. I mostly spend my time on what I suppose you'd call my hobbies.

To a degree. I have some very real physical limitations, but I can handle the tech aspect of it.
