Ah, once more you have come to your senses and realize that I am deserving of awe and praise, for why else would I be chosen over everyone else?

Though, I will say that I do not look forward to where you intend to send me, but as a Britannian prince, I will do nothing to shame the Empire's name. Of that, you can be assured. After all, should difficulty befall me, I need only think of what Schneizel would do in the situation.

And do not try to say that I could not ever comprehend what my brother would choose to do! He is my brother and I know my brothers like the back of my hand! So, do your worst and know that you stand against greatness.

As such, I will always win.

Say all you want, the city is bound to break down all the pride you've ever had.

You underestimate me.

My shield is my namesake, my birthright, and my family. So you need not fear for my broken pride.

[He shakes his head. Well, much better if he experienced it first hand.]

Well, I won't argue with you. But you certainly will have it coming. The city doesn't play well with those clinging too strongly to their pride.

Then it simply will not play well with me.

As a Britannian prince, we must always hold our heads high. How can people expect to follow us if we do not stand strong in the face of adversity? My brother would say the same.

You'll be starting from the bottom, your majesty.

[He enunciates the title, almost mocking. But the pleasant sound of his voice masks that.]

You'll find that no matter what you do, it'll be impossible to lead until you've integrated yourself into the society. And there will be no way you can hold your head high if you find it pressed into the pillows more often than not.

I do not intend to run to my room to sob every time a commoner thinks they have bested me.

Well, I am glad to offer some support to a younger brother, even if I might not be with him in person. [ he smiles, utterly kindly, even if there remains an ever sharp edge. ] I am sure you will surprise those doubting you, Clovis, as you have before. [ not necessarily for the better, but he keeps that to himself. ]

Surely, they will realize it would be best to just let themselves be taken in by Britannia if the right argument is made.

[ Schneizel's eyes shoot up in polite surprise, though it is fleeting. his expression keeps placid, his tone pleasant. ]

Clovis. Have I not also said that there is more to be concerned with than ambition, noble though your own may be? You might show they our majesty better with compassion and gentility and your own talents.

But those are meant to better a Britannian own Area. It's hardly fit for mongrels who have no appreciation for our glory.

Clovis. [ repeated, but firmer this time, clipped. his smile does not falter through it. ]

Brute force does not beget appreciation. It earns resentment. I have faith that you can put your talents to fine use wherever you go.

[ Ah, that tone. ]

The act of subjugation is part of our nation, after all. It's hardly cruel force. We are bringing them all into our fold so to better themselves. After all, those living outside of Britannia are under the delusion that they are happy and content. How could they be? We need to do our utmost to, to ... [ He taps his index finger against his chin. ] ... to enlighten them and, and... that is hardly cruel.

[ he waves his hand. ]

Subjugation is sought by people with weaker hearts than our own noble fellows. [ ha hahahaha -- Schneizel ignores, in his own mind, the idea that his own plans could be considered such. ] You've been taking too many notes from Cornelia. She also has this concept of force always being the answer. [ well, she did. ]

When I went to Area 11, it... it was much ... much more than I thought it would be. I gathered strength from thinking on how Cornelia or you would handle the situation. I felt I had come up with the proper answer using both of my dear siblings' words. [ But watered down so much that he could understand them, and as such, not close to what either would do. ]

Hm... [ he sighs, wistful, if not a little sad. ] Cornelia and I would have dealt with that problem very differently.

The thought did come to me to seek out your council, but well, the role of Prime Minister and Second Prince is far more important. [ His way of saying, he did not want Schneizel to worry about him in a way to save his pride. ]

I am your brother as surely as I am either of those things, Clovis. [ he doesn't like thinking of Clovis much, these days, but that doesn't stop his mind. the past tense is making him uncomfortable, truth be told.

and, perhaps he is lying, or exaggerating. but it is for his brother. a white lie. ] I hold you just as dearly in my heart as any other soul, brother, and I would do all I could to help.

And yet, there are those of us who would forget those bonds...

[ Of course, Schneizel would know. He will always be the cleverest among them all.

You, you will forgive him, won't you? You will make things right and bring our family together? [ Like he did in the past. Schneizel always was capable of settling the family feuding so easily, so masterfully. This, this may be more with blood shed, but, but still! ]

I have felt his absence as sharply as any of you, Clovis. I would be a failure as a brother if I did not do my utmost to bring Lelouch back into the arms of his family.

I spoke a bit out of turn, Schneizel.

[ and he smiles again, gentles. ]

You know, I think it would be marvelous if I were to be at your side once more. I also think on what it would be like if His Majesty were to join us. I do so miss him, as well. There is much that I feel I must say, too, but I need not say that to you. I'm certain you would love to see him just as much as I. Why... that would make our stay anywhere that much easier to adapt and survive in.

[ Schneizel's smile is, thankfully, picture perfect. ]

I'm sure he would be well received wherever he happened to go, Clovis. Ah, but his imperial majesty could hardly be herded as we are, could he? [ and, in a bid to move away from the subject of father -- ] I admit, however, it is marvelous to see you again.

[ he misses him: that is something he needn't lie about. ]

[ He almost has a tangible heart over his head as he thinks of their father, then pauses. ]

I agree. I had thought that I would not ever appear again! But one need only wait and we are rewarded for our patience. [ ... ] Ah, that said, I am very glad to see that you are well and happy, brother!

I would not wish for anything to darken your doorstep, as it were.

Please, Clovis. The pleasure at this meeting is mine. [ again, despite how Clovis exasperates him on a frequent basis, he is happy to see him. joy is a rare thing. he takes what he can get, takes in the sight of his little brother alive and well and smiling.

It's no surprise that your good lady could not set you aside for long, Clovis. You have always been much too charming.

You flatter me! But you also speak the truth. [ He tips his chin up, feeling quite proud of himself, then realizes just how much the height difference is with his brother and lowers his chin. Clovis clears his throat to try to sneaky standing up on his tip toes to try to close some of that difference. ]

Yes, I do feel like I have grown in all matter of speaking since we last spoke.

[ Clovis is easily read, and his actions garner a chuckle from Schneizel, but that's easily passed off as a response to his words. ]

I don't doubt that at all.

[ Mmn!

Clovis eventually has to give up and is back down on his heels. Hmphing quietly to himself, but trying to keep his pouting under control. ]

Yes, yes. Everyone says so.

I am curious as to how you can know the back of your hand so well, when you constantly wear gloves.

[No really, brother, he's very curious.]

[Pride destruction death, you know how that goes.]

It is what we as part of the Imperial Family should always strive to do...

That -- that was not the consequence of pride. [ He clears his throat. ] But you are forgiven, Lelouch. I know it was not your fault. Though, it may have been your hand... it was not your mind that was there in that room. I know it because we are brothers and regardless of time, I do not doubt that there is love still there between us.

[His eyes narrow.]

I do not require your forgiveness, nor do I seek it. You are eager to return things to how they were, but your naivety makes you blind. I have no interest in the past. Why should I care to return to it? What possible happiness could it afford me, knowing what I do now?! If you truly understood my heart, you would not waste your time trying to lure me with such an impossible dream.

As my father has forsaken me, so I have cast him aside. As my mother perished from his neglect, so do I let my memories wither. The past is dead to me. I look only to the future.

And the future has no need for those who refuse to change.

[As to the statement about them being brothers, well... He just lets that slide under the radar. Ultimately it's...irrelevant.]

Your mother... she was killed by terrorists. His Majesty would not want to do anything to cause harm to His Empress. [ ... ] All of us looked up to Lady Marianne. All of us did.

And His Majesty did not forsake you. He does not forsake any of his children. How can you be so blind as to see how much he cares for all of us? Did staying over with those Elevens truly erase all your memories with us? All the happiness that you had? The past may be dead to you, but it ... it is alive with me.

I asked him myself! I asked why he did not protect my mother, his wife, whom you claim he would not wish any harm on. I asked why he refused to show care for my sister who had been crippled, his child, whom you claim he would not forsake. What care is there in a father who tells a child looking for answers that he is a waste of time? What happiness is there in an existence as a pawn, as one who is worth no more alive than dead? This is what he told me-- His Majesty, the Emperor, our father --that I, and my sister, and all of us are nothing to him! ...And you would have me return to that?

[He frowns bitterly.] If that is where the "real me" is, I would rather I were dead.

[ He flinches. ]

Do not say such things. Not of yourself or of His Majesty. [ ... ] Father ... Father was naturally hurting too after her death. You should not take his words to be the complete truth on the matter. In that grief, he must... must be trying to separate himself from it in his own way. I cannot say that, that was right, but even you can understand that he has always been a loving presence in our lives.

A single stress-filled moment should not ruin your memories with us all.

Oh, yes, it is quite a bit of work to look as I do. But I do it myself daily. After all, sometimes, you just can't trust your servants to get it just right. Furthermore, I had to leave home in order to run an Area.

Sadly, I could not bring all my servants and so I was glad to have learned how to fix myself up right.
