Perhaps that is me. Perhaps it is not. Do not hope for too much with so little information.

But I have always wished to see France. I have experience enough of revolutions, and of deposing corrupt kings. There is no reason why I should not make use of my previous struggles.

Yet I do not look forward to what such a conflict will bring. Must these upheavals always be double-edged swords? Must freedom always be bought at the price of such senseless loss of life? Injustice should never be met with more injustice, or violence against the innocent. The cause of freedom should be used to enrich the many, and not the few.

[Frustrated, he sighs.] The Brotherhood's fight seems more and more like it is a war without end. Yet fight we must.

Do try to remember that your duty is to your own country. Your work is not done simply because you have killed a few Templars.

The United States is not my country, Achilles. That has been made abundantly clear to me. Regardless, I have trained many skilled recruits more than capable of maintaining Assassin influence, should I leave for any length of time.

[Ah, yes. Memory can cast everything through rose-tinted glasses, and in this case Connor had almost forgotten how utterly discouraging Achilles could be.]

I assume nothing. I know little of the French Brotherhood. But should my help be needed, I would provide it -- and I have a friend from France who I suspect would seek my help, even if he is no Assassin.

I admit, I have come close to losing my way once before. I have no intention of doing so again.

There is nothing shameful in that. The world is a harsh place, it tries its best to sharpen softness into knives. It isn't easy to keep track of right and wrong when they're muddled all around you...

But, I trust in your strong and steady melody. It tells me, you'll find your way, no matter how many times you might lose sight of it.

[He supposes she's speaking metaphorically, but he isn't entirely sure.]

[He starts, and puts a hand to his chest, almost as if expecting his heart to be beating louder or harder than normal. When he can't feel any difference, he blinks at her in surprise.]

You are truly capable of hearing such a thing? That is impressive...

I am. I wasn't born this way, mind you. I was an ordinary woman, once.

But, because of a stupid mistake, my friend died and my body... [She clutches at one baggy sleeve, rubbing at her arm, where the cloth's drawn close to her flesh by her hand, the silhouette of her arm looks grotesquely warped and misshapen— how much worse would it have looked if she exposed it?] ... this ability came at a great cost.

[Connor frowns, appalled -- not out of revulsion, but sympathy. His own time period has its share of vicious and horrific illnesses, but this is different. And he knew better than many what it was to lose a friend, owing to a lapse in judgement.]

Was it caused by magic, or something similar?

[She nods solemnly.]

The Sonata of Darkness, supposedly penned by the Devil himself.

My friend played just one movement of it and was torn completely apart, dying almost immediately. I only listened to it, so I lived.

I want to find it. I want to find the whole sheet so I can destroy it and no one else will have to go through what I did.

[Her expression softens with a small, sympathetic smile.] I'm sure you understand that feeling.

I do. I am sorry for what you must have endured. [He says it quietly. His circumstances might be different, but the sentiment is the same.] If you should find and destroy it, is there any way you could reverse its effects on your body?

I don't know... if it's possible, I'd like to undo it.

[She offers a reassuring smile.]

That aside, my name is Senritsu! I didn't catch your name, so could you please tell me it? I want to know more about you and your cause.

[He nods. She has a positive attitude, at the very least, which means she's already won half the battle.]

My name is Connor. I fight against those who would oppress others, and deprive them of their freedoms. All have a right to live happy lives, with dignity and at peace.

[cursedmelody]

[She closes her eyes, smiling blissfully, her hands cupped behind her ears.]

... you mean every word.

Your words are as honest and reliable as your heartbeat. It's a dreamlike quality. [She lowers her hands, opening her eyes to look at him seriously.] But, this world is full of people whose words are at odds with their intentions. Maybe it's unnecessary, but... I want to tell you to please take care, a heart so transparent is a favourite target of ill-intentioned, manipulators who disguise their own hearts.

So I have been warned many times before, and so it has come to pass.

[A pained expression crosses his face from beneath his hood. Washington, Haytham, even Juno -- all behaved as though with his best interests at heart, and all betrayed him in the end with a knife to the back.]

I will not make the same mistakes I once did.

Life teaches us many lessons, some more difficult than others.

[She smiles up at him.]

We're all still learning. With that resolve, I hope you'll be able to protect yourself and others better in the future.
