They're never going to let me go, are they?

Ashford and Jacob, they think they can take me away, that they can 'rescue' me, and that it would be that easy. That all they need to do is get me to listen to them, and that'll I'll change my mind and join them.

But the Sanctified... The Lancea Sanctum would never let me just leave. Too many people know I have Theban. If I went missing, if I got kidnapped, if I ran away... they'd come looking for me. Alot of them. Maybe some for my sake, but more for the texts I translated. They'd bring me back, and they'd kill the people who took me. You wanted to make me valuable to the Sanctified, and, like, you totally did, but... but they'd kill me too, before they'd let me leave.

So even if he's right, even if I'm not damned... I'm still trapped. If this is what it means ot be a vampire, maybe I should walk into the sun.

Oh, my, you poor dear! You really have fallen in with the wrong lot, haven't you. The Sanctified are as dreary as they are odious. I'm not surprised you've gotten such a dim view of our shared metaphysical state.

You're right that they're an aggressive bunch when it comes to their secrets. Still, though. They're not as all-powerful as they wish they were, nor even as you think they are.

I know... I know they aren't all powerful, I mean, I've seen how even Theban isn't always enough.

But I've just realized that for as much as they protect me, they also contain me.

Whatever works for you, I suppose! If the protection is truly worth it. But there really is so much more to existence. It'd be a shame if you missed the best parts. You never learn anything interesting by playing it safe, after all.

...truth be told, I do rather enjoy cultivating it. I've been told I have a bit of a flair for the dramatic. Perhaps if I'd been born some centuries later I could have been a thespian.
