I know a bad idea when I see one, especially when a person can't even commit. I don't exactly do things half-assed.

I think what's best for everyone in this situation is that you let me go back to doing my business and return to yours. So put aside your ideas of forcing me to go anywhere that I don't want to go, especially alone. That way no one gets hurt and isn't it always better when no one gets hurt?

Mmm. I suppose there's something to that.

[ He scoffs a little, crossing his arms. ] I didn't say anything about romance. I'm betrothed and have been for years. It's perfectly normal. Though I suppose a commoner like yourself probably has the ideals of picking your own spouse.

Forced into marriage huh? Seen that a time or two, mostly just among royalty. Then again, even royalty often get some kind of fairytale ending.

I guess I could pick if I wanted to. I'm not really the settling down type of girl.

It isn't about fairytale endings. It's about duty. One does sometimes form a close bond with those they're chosen to marry, but it's more of a lucky perk than anything.

[ He wrinkles his forehead. Women are supposed to be the settling down type, but he supposes he's met a few who aren't. He shakes his head a little. ] If that's what you choose, I suppose you aren't in a position to be forced to do otherwise.

And have you formed a bond? Do you at least love the poor girl?

[She'll never understand the whole "forcing" thing of marriage.]

Men are all well and good and necessary at times, but I've got far more important things to do with my time.

The poor girl...? [ He huffs, blushing a little and looking away from her. ] Not that it's really any of your concern, but the Lady Elizabeth is perfectly ecstatic to marry me. Sometimes I think it's all she ever thinks about.

More important thing to do?

[notsweet]

Oh. [She shrugs.] I didn't mean any harm by it, you said you weren't into romance. It'd be pretty terrible for a girl to have to marry a guy who didn't love her. I might not be very romantic, but even I know that would suck.

Yeah, I'm a bounty hunter of sorts. I'm always on the move, always looking for the next kill.

[vengier]

Romance is frivolous and I've not time for it. It doesn't mean I don't care for her. She knows my thoughts on it. [ He thinks. Maybe. ]

... I see. And that sort of work is something you enjoy?

[notsweet]

Not my business. [She's all smirky though because she can read that blush.] But looks like she may be one of the lucky ones.

Well, it's a living. [But in many ways, hell yes, she does.]

[ NO DON'T DO THAT. He huffs again. ]

What got you into bounty hunting of all things?

[notsweet]

[How can she not smirk knowingly at that?]

Well, it's something that we didn't intend on getting into, but my brother and I sort of fell into it.

[vengier]

And your brother was alright with allowing you to join in such matters?

[notsweet]

We're a team. We got into this mess together and now it just sort of runs our lives.

[vengier]

How interesting. [ he may or may not mean that seriously. ]

Like I said, it's a living. Sometimes you end up living a life you didn't expect and you just have to go with it.

[vengier]

No one lives the life they expect, I imagine. Being thrust into the life of a bounty hunter is certainly an outcome I wouldn't have suspected, but I certainly know circumstances can make for the oddest of career choices.

[notsweet]

Your pretty intelligent for a...[Would he get offended if she used the word "kid", she knew Hansel and she used to get pretty pissed to be called children.]...a boy. I'm guessing whatever your circumstances you grew up quickly too.

You're rather quick for a bounty hunter. [ Says the... royal... bounty hunter pretty much. ]

Witch hunter always sounded a little better to me. People throw bounty hunter around like it's the most negative job out there.

It's a fucking shame when kids have to grow up too fast. But you do what you got to do. That's just survival.

[vengier]

Witch hunter? [ He was about to question how much work she could possibly have, but... well, his butler is a demon, and he has certainly met some witches before. So. ] Are witches primarily in need of hunting where you're from? In my world, they're mostly harmless.

[ He shrugs, looking off to the side. ] You just have to go with it. Isn't that what you said?

Their downright evil bitches in mine. It's a rare case indeed to see one who isn't.

[To the other part, she merely nods.] Yeah, I've seen that look before.

So long as you're able to tell the difference when they aren't.

Rotting flesh, yellowed teeth, terrible stench. Very obvious signs and I always get proof.

Yeah. Haunted.

[ He wrinkles his nose at the word, though he knows it's rather accurate. ] Hunting witches, I imagine you would see that.

What, rotting flesh or haunted children?

[vengier]

[ A small chuckle at that, good job. ] Both.
