Years have passed and now I come back to mind? I admit the truth in your statement: it isn't as if I'd left, though venues have changed.

I will adjust, as ever, though I do recommend both of us exercise what passes as patience.

The trait may be rare, but I have reason to believe that, in this, at the least, it will be given.

[He inclines his head slightly in acknowledgement but no more - he's not Haldir's lord, but the respect is nice.]

What cause have you to believe such a thing?

It may have been years since I've been out in the open, but those years have not changed traits of perfectionism and efforts at accuracy. Patience will be needed to make certain my voice is as it should be.

It seems a common trait - it is one that my own mundane shares. However, it has not stopped her from playing me.

I can give no insights into the motivations of others. I can only say that it seems elvendom holds great appeal to many, and you, as royalty, could only hold even more.

It may appeal to many, but there are few among humans who could claim to understand it - fewer, given that my own history is far from entirely known. My status has no more to do with the matter than does yours.

The matter of understanding, perhaps not, but of appeal, I believe it does. Humanity as a whole seems to have grand delusions about the lives of royalty, of idleness and wanting for nothing with no thought to the requirements and duties that royals must fulfill. That, however falls under the matter of understanding.

Perhaps in general, though the ideas my own mun holds as to the duties I fulfill and the position I hold are not so fanciful. There is no room for waste in Mirkwood.

I have always thought it unfortunate that our kin in Mirkwood have the most toil of all of our settlements.

Our labors are of our own choosing, and the price we choose to pay so that we need not abandon our home. It is not small, but it is more than tolerable.

And it speaks of the strength of spirit in your people.

[He inclines his head again, thanks and acknowledgement of the compliment.]

We are what we must be.

[Haldir returned it with a polite nod.] As are we all, crafted by our surroundings and our circumstances.

Certain more than others, I think.

[He does not deny that Galadriel is powerful, that she is a potent force to be reckoned with or that she takes care of her people well. Your Mundane is bringing you back? How long has it been for you?

It's been years for me as well. I think at least ten!

Perhaps not quite ten, young hobbit, but not so far from it. [There wasn't quite a smile on his face, but there was a polite nod.] A pleasure to see you.

Has your Mundane spoken of any plans for you? I keep hearing talk of games and something called by a strange name- what was it oh yes! Memes, I believe.

I may or may not be going to a game, and at the moment, those "memes" are a place for me to... stretch my legs, as it's said. And I will say that it's a welcome change from being secreted away for so long.

It's the same for me as well. Memes first then perhaps a game, but it's nice simply to walk about here. I think my Mundane has an interest in sending me to a game involving a large number of ponies. I wonder what her intentions are- where would I be riding to and why are there so many ponies there? Odd.

Have you heard any word about how these games work?

Not personally, but I do know from others how they work, though there are variances. [The height difference nearly dictated that Haldir crouch to look Merry in the eye.] In most cases, we are... removed from the world we consider home and placed inside another for a reason that is not always clear, if there is a reason at all. Sometimes people are called to fight, other times by accident. But in these games, there are others from other worlds. Different elves, different men, and in the instance you've spoken of, ponies. Sometimes there are others from our world, people we would recognise at least by name. But there, we are to make friends, make discoveries, and live until and unless we can go home.

It sounds like an opportunity for a grand adventure, but I'm surprised they're called "games." Why, if one wasn't lucky they might be placed in a particularly dangerous place with not a single friend. If a Mundane can see where they place us, it would be best to keep them pleased I suppose.

Then perhaps, it is at least a welcomed and good return? Unless there are ill laid plans for your future, of course. It is always good to see the March Warden about even if the ones leading us find a bit of delight in our trials.
