No Walkers?
[A moment of quiet contemplation passes as Carl critically considers some question previously posed. Surviving anywhere that doesn't sport a healthy population of flesh eating, undead corpses hardly seems like survival at all. However, that stipulation doesn't come without its own cons to weigh against that one single pro.
He adjusts his hat and lets out a soft grunt.]
Dad might not be around, though. Or the others.
[The young boy — more a man by now, if we're being honest — understands that much. And yet, a moment later, he nods with certainty.]
But...I can do that. I can handle myself. You don't have to worry about me.

We're pretty used to doing without, anyway.
[But there is a sense of disappointment there.]
Where's your camp?
no subject
Mm.
[He frowns at the question, just slightly.]
Place I'm at ain't exactly nearby but it ain't far...
[He'd love to give more than that- just like he'd love to take Carl back with him, Carl and the rest of his people- but as with most important things, that ain't his call.]
no subject
Are you alone?
no subject
[Kids who, while not as tough as Carl, have seen their share of shit.]
Other types, too.
no subject
[And then, somewhat hurriedly:] A girl said walkers here can talk. [Well, she didn't say that exactly, but Carl's still working on learning the importance of details in this kind of telephone game here.] Does that count? [There may be an unspoken is it true? in there.]
no subject
[He shifts awkwardly. The sorts he's become friendly with... They ain't all human, matter of fact most of 'em're far from it...
How the hell's he supposed to explain how that works?] And if it's talkin' it ain't gonna hurt you. Not like a walker would.
[Because let's be real- everything can be dangerous.] But that ain't what I'm talkin' about. They got demons, angels, all kinds of shit. Wizards.
[Abracadabra...]
no subject
Wizards. [Said flatly. He laughs.] That's not funny, Daryl. [And yet...] Just because I'm a kid doesn't mean I believe in Harry Potter.
no subject
But no, Daryl ain't touchin' that with a forty foot pole. Someone he feels like general wizardry is easier to explain than the fact that he almost ate the main character's dear old dad...]
Ain't supposed to be funny. Seen some pretty weird shit... [He's also ridden a raptor across a field, so there's that.] You'll see it too, if you're here long enough.
[Best be prepared, kid.]
no subject
Weird stuff— [He can't say shit, but he wants to, dammit.] —that's better or worse than walkers?
OH MY GOD HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH DEER. OLD DAD. OH YOU.
Some's worse... Most's better.
[And for Daryl to show even a little bit of optimism is... Kind of a Big Deal.
Carl probably knows that better than most, actually.]
No avoidin' either.
;)
Guess so. [It's probably better to learn that pretty early on. And then, the question he can't get off of his mind.] What do I do?
no subject
He doesn't say that, though, because a false sense of security never helped nobody.] Really depends on where you wind up.
no subject
I'll let you know. [Carl tips his head forward, expression serious.] But if you need me before then, I'm here.
[They take care of their own, right?]
no subject
Sure. Same for you, I ain't hard to find.
