[ puzzled look, netnavis are basically sentient day planners in some ways ] Yes, well...

I suppose that's the case for human beings. But I'm not human, so it's not as if I have to worry about overworking or exhaustion... [ he likes work .-. his teammates justifiably think he is kind of a shut-in but he is one of those exceptionally obedient navigators ]

Maybe it's a little old-fashioned of me, but I think a break every once in a while benefits everybody, human or no.

[ shrug ] Netnavis are programmed to handle their operators' daily affairs. It would be poor programming if they weren't able to handle day-to-day processing. [ though he does get headaches from time to time... ]

I suppose so...though if I don't handle it, I doubt the others will. [ He would take more breaks if he wasn't so used to being team manager, but the habit is formed so there we go.

He is belatedly realising how long it's actually been since he's had a good span of time to just sit and read. It's kind of sad. ]

Sounds like you're taking on more than one operator's share of the work, then. I'm not sure if programs get vacation days, but it might be something to look into, you know! At least for a little while.

[Some would call Hiroto's style too lenient for his current position-- he is the CEO to his family's company, after all.

However... while much of the company's success could be credited to the hard work of the comrades he counted on, he at least likes to think he's onto something with that philosophy.]

[ well, it's not as if he's in any position to judge! ] Mm, I guess it's just habit. After such a long time with the same operator, watching them grow up, it's hard to remember they're a capable adult now.

[ sighs. being artificial is hard sometimes! he feels really old... ] And it's not as if I'm doing anything right now, so it counts as a break.

Heh, I suppose so. It's probably a lot different than growing up with someone with the whole... not aging thing, I guess.

I remember being less emotionally mature, at least, but there are a lot of differences, yes. [ Not being able to interact with the physical world is one of the limitations, of course. Not to mention the limitations of the technology... ]

Say, what kind of magic do you do, anyway?

I don't perform actual magic, like humans would see it, but I and others like myself can perform tasks in environments that humans wouldn't be able to enter, and handle situations that would be dangerous independently.

In an age where many things are controlled by computer networks, we're very useful. It's a situational thing, I suppose. [ He shrugs. ] It's not very impressive on its own, I'm afraid, unless you like hearing about technology. The name is more related to my aesthetic.

Of course it's not magic in a scientific sense, but to regular humans... [A quiet, thoughtful hum.]

Sounds like you're from a place with some impressive tech, though. I don't think we have anything quite as advanced as you back home-- I've never really been able to enjoy a conversation with AI before! [He chuckles.] That's pretty awesome in its own right.

It could be considered magic, I suppose. But it's a part of people's lives, so they tend to take it for granted.

Navis like myself can thank Dr Hikari for that. He turned his considerable talents to researching artificial intelligence and data-based networking. He was a genius who quite literally changed the way humans communicated and shared information.

I suppose it is impressive, but that seems a little conceited. [ advanced technology has the capability to be humble! ] What kind of technology do you have in your time period?
