There's a few of them at the Institute. Jean and Scott were the ones who have been there the longest. Then there's...[She starts listing off one student at a time. Not telling of their abilities or anything.]

That's pretty much it.

[Charles listens intently, quite pleased with the number of names.]

Wow, that's quite a few. [He considers.] There will probably be even more farther ahead in time. [Enough time, and mutants could become equal numbers with humans. That is, if they were allowed.]

More than a few. There's been some fights between two sides. Not us and normal people, but us versus others like us. Another band of mutants who don't have the same values as us.

[Though she'll leave out the part where the Mansion was destroyed and had to be rebuilt...and all other nasty things.]

That's not promising. If we can't even get along with each other, there's less chance we can integrate with non-mutants. [Nobody ever said it would be easy.]

It's more complicated than that. We don't like the others because of how they are and because of what their ideals are.

We're backed into a corner at times. Tryin' ta defend people who hate us from those who think themselves superior to them.
