There's definitely a pattern for the attacks, but it's still difficult to determine much about it beforehand. And that's not even accounting for the random events caused by the lesser demons around the city, either.

It's called a 'Persona'. A manifestation of the self you can summon to fight. If you manage to get to Hinoto-Ri, the most common way is by meeting an entity called Philemon. If you meet him and pass his test, he brings you to Hinoto-Ri with that power to summon them.
