Most vampires now know little of it. Or am I to understand you have a different story entirely?

Well, I've never put much stock into the Lancae creation myths, but I do believe the story goes that Longinus was the first vampire.

And I know nothing of werewolves. Nor do I care to.

[ Amusement, huh? Elena collects herself quietly, with comparably as much poise. ]

[ A brief pause, if only to study her for a moment, as if to try and read her.

The corners of his lips tug up for a fleeting second, but the so-called smile doesn't reach his eyes. He saw nothing more important than preserving his family, but breaking a given word has always been an offense worthy of punishment.

Of course, trust was earned. He knew that, of all people.]

No, Elena. And believe me, I will make sure not to give you reason.

[ A pause, a slight tensing in his jaw.] I...apologize for my betrayal. Simply, family is all that remains, in the end. [ Hopefully, she could understand.

He didn't necessarily feel like he needed to explain himself but...he did feel regret. The letter he wrote nothing short of sincere.]

[ Elena hopes he won't, and will take his word at that, for now. Besides respecting him, she could value him as a friend in Anatole, not only an ally.

She perhaps understands him more than she ought to understand. It flickers in her eyes at his apology, at his careful smile. (Hers or his, it makes no difference - ) family is all that remains, and that's all the more reason to keep them and keep them safe.

Words said and spell broken, her eyes flickers down for a moment as she nods. ]

I'm glad. [ She pulls in a steeling breath, continues sincerely: ] Thank you. For your apology.

[ Elijah nods once, in a few smooth strides getting closer to her.

[ It seemed almost nicely ironic to him. She deceived, he in turn betrayed her trust. This time, Elijah's smirk has dry, with a sense of sarcastic humor as he locked his gaze to her. Yet it wasn't hostile. He would admit, he was pleased to see her admit to her own regrets.] Well, I suppose we are even then.

[ A pause, lifting his eyes up slightly, as if remembering a thought. The look of amusement is subtle, much like many of his other expressions.] But. I am growing increasingly tired of your Salvatore brothers continuously trying to put a dagger through my heart, one way or another. [ A head tilt, musing.] How likely are they to try that at this...Anatole place?

[ She's glad to hear it, relieved although she makes every effort not to show just how relieved. This is how she feels too, and this is best, for everyone she loves in Anatole. His smirk, however, unnerves her slightly, although does not frighten her. She does not sense there is hostility, but there is less trust between them now, more faith in their convictions. Where they stand is on equal ground, but they have both learned something about themselves they could tear apart any alliance in the future, if repeated. ]

They can't. [ And she's even relieved about that too. She wants no trouble with Elijah, and she doesn't want Stefan or Damon or anyone to get hurt needlessly: and as far as she can tell, this would be the epitome of needless. ] They won't. [ She'll make sure of that, somehow. ] There's no white oak tree or ash, no dagger here even if they wanted to. Not unless you bring it with you.

[ A pause. ]

Elijah, your family isn't here. Klaus isn't here. [ not yet. hopefully not ever. ] There's no reason we all can't ... live together, or just in peace.

Mm. [ A nod, as he raised his head. ] I see.

[ Lack of the other Originals meant lack of problems. Ironically, all his betrayals, and endeavors against his brother...really were rooted into the presence of his family. With it not in sight, there would be much less problems to deal with. Surprisingly enough, he found the thought humorous. Family: just as important as it was a nuisance at times. A light, single chuckle, before turning away from his reverie.

He mused at what Elena said, absently chewing on his lip. ] Do not think that I will look for conflict where it isn't necessary, Elena.

[ Basically, he agrees with you... But he also assumes you know he will act accordingly if someone else was to start one.] Moreover, I believe you make a better ally than enemy.
