Don't worry about me. [He tilts his head.] It's just...well. Y'know. Things are sort of hard but that's just how it is.

[Luke's expression goes a bit sour.]

Yeah, that's what I figure.

[ He makes a face, not sure how to wipe the puss off Luke's face. ]

What do you plan to do about it, then?

I. Uh. [He blinks stupidly for a moment. Poor Luke's still trying to get the hang of this part. Making decisions for one's self just doesn't come easy.]

I...I'll go forward until I fall apart.

W-well, you don't have to go that far! Sleep is a good idea for an exhausted little thing like you!

[hyperresonating]

[Luke shakes his head, desperately trying to hide that sign of what he's feeling-- the resignation to his fate.]

Oh-- n-no I'm alright your majesty, really.

If you say so. I won't forgive you if you run yourself down, however. My Jade may not show it, but he's taken quite a liking to you.

[hyperresonating]

Yeah...I know. Even if he's not very good at showing it. [An awkward smile.]

I'll do my best not to make your "sweet Jade" sad, alright?

Sad might be pushing it, but I don't think he'd be quite the same if he lost you. I suppose it's the price to pay, on your part, for becoming a friend, and on his, for making them.

[hyperresonating]

That's a very mature way of looking at things. [He blushes, a little put-out that he hadn't thought of it that way on his own.]

Jade and I are a good deal older than you. You'll soon learn the ways.

I may not have a choice. [He laughs, a little too bitter to think about a future that he simply won't have.]

You probably won't, but the world's a mysterious thing. You may end up like Jade, who was never properly a child, or me, who never grew up. More likely that you'll just be yourself.

[hyperresonating]

Yeah...either way, I'll end up as 'me.'

[There's a great deal of sadness to the way he says that, but he doesn't say any more.]

"You" tends to be a very good thing to end up as. It'll be okay, man. You'll see.

Of course, that also means that even people like the colonel can be caught flatfooted, not that I've seen it myself.
