Okay, seriously, we've been through worse. We have.

[Pause, sigh.] Okay, I have. I'm the one who had the abusive father and was ass-kicked around by the canima, and nearly got killed by a pair of twin assholes with self confidence issues. [Rubbing his face.] But we can get through this if I can just ... just get one of these guys to listen to me. Derek needs to wake up and Stiles needs to stop kicking himself in the ass because none of this is his fault.

I can do this. I can do this. I'm the best goddamned Beta in this town. The triskola or whatever it is goes up and down.

...Scott's depending on me.

[Big, Deep, Breath.]

And Mun, seriously? If you even think about taking me to a game before this season is over? We're going to have issues. I don't want a left-turn because you couldn't hold your damned water.

[Huh. He shook his head after a moment.] Whatever. Derek needs to get his shit together. He's an Alpha, and he needs to start playing smart, not emotional.

We all just need to get our heads in the game. We're all like... I don't know. Pinball. Going off in our own directions, worrying about our own priorities, when we're all facing the same damned problems, and if we just fall in line, we might be able to actually win this.

[He knew Stiles would get it. And be able to put it in words better than he could.]

So where do we start?

[He huffs a sigh, a 'let's get down to business' sigh.]

He is, after all, our fearless leader. And if Deucalion thinks he's down and out, he'll just cut through us like corn. Plus, Ms. Blake has this weird thing for him. Which, aside from being incredibly creepy, means that he's the only person who could even remotely stand a chance of dealing with her.

Derek...

[Issac sighed himself, rubbing his face.]

Can't we start with something easier? Like - say - full on charge on the Alphas and Ms. Blake?

[Stiles is right though.] All right, so we got to get him focused. Stop moping and get him to be the leader he can be. Which means... we got to get him to trust that we're right.

It's not trusting us that's the problem. Or, it is, a big, glaring problem, but it's not the problem that's getting us killed. It's trusting himself.

And we're all handling him with kid gloves and trying not to breathe too hard on him in case he breaks, and he's starting to think that we might have a point.

I can come up with a plan, and it can be the best plan in the world, but I can't lead.

All right ... short answer, how do we get Derek to trust himself?

[He frowned.] I guess I could stop pulling my punches. Really, y'know, tell him what I thought of the situation? He might pause and think about that.

How come you pull your punches with him, but I get 'nut up and save our asses, Iron Man'?

[But he's still grinning when he says it.]

We just have to have his back. And tell him we have. And be ready to follow him, even if it means getting killed. Literally, we are placing our lives in his hands here, and he has to realise that. That, when it comes to it, if he screws up, it doesn't matter because we chose this. Him.

[His smile is smaller, sadder.]

I think that's what Boyd was trying to say.

Because you're not going to punch me so hard I'll be flying into walls?

[He's grinning right back, before he folds his arms over his chest. His face tensing a little when he thinks of Boyd.]

We did, you know. That night when Boyd was killed. We told him we weren't leaving him alone. We chose this, and we chose him.

[He looked off, thoughtfully.] ...guess the only way to get that through to him is not back off, this time. No space. Time to 'nut up or shut up, Fury'.

No, but I could Mountain Ash you into a bathroom for the rest of your natural days. Or spike your soda with that trip-tacular wolfbane that Lydia used on all of us.

[He leans against him a little, silent support.]

And then Boyd died, and he thought 'shit, this is my fault'. When actually, it was Kali's fault for being an evil ho-bag with no sense of hygiene.

[He gives a short bark of laughter.]

Oh please. Let me be there when you say that to him.

[He leans back, brooding a little.]

...I don't know what's worse, the fact that Boyd died, or that he died so pointlessly. They just used him like he was a goddamned playdoll. God, I hate them. I hate them so fucking much.

[He smirks at that.]

Okay. Hopefully you'll be able to get me to Dr. Deaton before my brains ooze through my sneakers.

No, that was just made up on the fly. If I was trying to be really evil, my threats would involve some sort of public humiliation and probably sharp implements. But I like you, so it's just getting you high or locking you in the can.

[He covers Isaac's hand with his and gives it a squeeze.]

And that's why we're gonna beat them. Probably kill them, because Derek has the self-restraint of a gnat, but hopefully torture them, first.

I'm not sure if that's supposed to make me feel better ... or worse ...

[He silently folds his hand around Stiles's, his voice quiet.]

God, I hope so. I hope we make them all pay for every single life. Evil like that should get what it deserves. One way or another.

Better. Because I'm not being all sinister on you. Because you're cool.

[He squeezes again, hard.]

We're gonna take them down, Isaac. We're gonna annihilate them.

Considering what kind of scary genius you are ... thanks.

[He looked over at Stiles, his gaze quiet.]

And we're gonna find your Dad. And Scott's Mom. And we're not going to find bodies - we're gonna find them.

Aww, you think I'm a scary genius? Most people just think I'm a dork.

[He leans. Chin nudging against his shoulder a little.]

We're gonna be awesome. And then we're all gonna have a vacation from anything weird. I will draw a massive circle around the whole of Beacon Hills in mountain ash if I have to.

They obviously didn't see you with Ethan on the bus. Scary, scary manipulative.

[He looks down at Stiles, because he does have to look down at Stiles, before he just leans over and pulls the other boy in for a very-unmanly hug. Shut up. He needs it.]

...christ, couldn't we all go to, I don't know, San Diego first before you do that? Who wants to be trapped in Beacon Hills for vacation?

That's so sweet, I'm flattered.

[He flails a little, because holy shit with the pulling, but it's only a second before he's hugging him back, face buried against his shoulder in an equally un-manly way.]

We'll probably be in time for Comic-con...

Since it takes a lot to impress on your constant hyperness, I'll take it.

[He wasn't crying, because damn it, he was a werewolf and a man and not a small boy but honestly? Too much, too fast. And he didn't think they would lose but he was tired of watching his friends die.]

[Well, if Isaac isn't crying, then Stiles is definitely not burrowing. Only Stiles is totally burrowing because he hasn't had a decent, honest-to-god hug in years. Not one where he wasn't worrying about the wanted fugitive in his bedroom, anyway.]

[No, they are totally being manly about their hugging and holding on tight. It's not like they aren't both dams that have not been trying to burst.]

[He smiles, just a little, against Isaac's shoulder. Because this is actually really nice and is making him feel a hell of a lot better. The healing power of the hug, man.]

Whole Pack. Pack field trip to the land of the nerds.

[Human contact - the right kind - could change everything. They could all use more hugs, it seemed.]

... You know Lydia will be bitching the entire time, right? And Derek and Cora will just bitch-face while Peter mocks us.

[But he likes thinking of that. All of them. Out of here. Happy, for once, just once.]

[Stiles is all for initiating puppy piles. He thinks they are an important part of werewolf bonding. Also he wants to hug all of the Pack members at the same time. On a good day, that includes Peter.]

They'll learn to shut up and smile. And then they'll learn to love it, because I have yet to meet a human being - or werewolf being - that hasn't found something to nerd over.
