Look, getting one tribble's fine as long as the proper precautions are taken. The Enterprise won't go under this time, we know better now. We never did get a chance to more thoroughly explore tribbles and their effects on humanoids and non-humanoids, and the science department's in complete agreement that it's something that should get looked into.
Besides, Spock likes them and it happens to embarrass the hell out of him that he's secretly a big softie at heart... and now everyone knows it. Ship gossip spreads like wildfire.
[so he has other reasons for wanting one for his office, namely making things difficult for him. Spock's other Achilles heel]
Anyway, a properly contained tribble would be a boost for crew morale when they visit sickbay.
