[Her smile falters a bit when he won't meet her eyes. He's still a shooting star at heart, brought down to earth by her gravity. Who is she to take a star from its place in the heavens? Who is she to have him follow her down? In her heart, she feels guilt for wanting to have him by her side. Though it hurts, she's made it clear that he can come and go as he pleases. She doesn't just want him to stay. She wants him to want to stay. Sometimes, she wonders if he's only with her as some sort of penance for the sins of his past. How does one grant the wish of a shooting star?]

We're not facing life or death situations every hour of every day. It's the comfort that peace affords us while it lasts. You owe it to yourself to try and gain some sense of normality.

[To some degree, she sees herself as a burden to him, another obstacle preventing him from living a normal and happy life. As Vice Foreign Minister, she's taken the weight of the world on her shoulders. It was never her intent to have him share her worries. She's the one who should be protecting him now. All his life, he's been made to fight for the sake of others. He's the kindest person she's ever known and yet he won't permit anyone to care for him.]

Exactly! No one believes me except Quatre. [Just a little bit of a pout, but more resigned. Then he smirks.]

Of course I am. Quatre... I haven't found him this round yet.

[His cage? Would she truly be his cage if he willingly remained? He takes a long moment to just study her. In their hectic schedule, despite his assigned duty as her bodyguard, they rarely have a moment just to talk.

He finally steps forward, and reaches out to brush his fingertips along the ends of her hair.]

[Sighing, she can't fully trust that he's telling the truth. After all, he's lied before. Before her glass kingdom shattered, he'd promised to stay only to turn around and leave once her back was turned. On Libra, he had pushed her away to risk his life for the sake of the future. He saw his life as cheap.]

You say that you're staying because you want to, and because you wish to protect me. Can't it be just because you want to? Would you stay even if danger no longer hounded me?

Yeah. They've split all of us in the city up. Some know we're being messed with, others don't. The usual methods aren't working.

[He rubs the back of his head before offering a bit quieter.]

[Heero didn't know what to make of hypotheticals. All his life he focused on what was and what wasn't. The mission. His objectives. He followed his emotions, and the only times he'd ever questioned himself had to do with Relena.

So when she poses that question, he frowns. Would he be of any use then? Would she want him near if there was no danger? Hypotheticals were difficult.

Heero takes another step closer.]

I'll be here as long as I'm needed.
