I wouldn't worry to much about being a side character. I was one for the novella where I was created and then got to have my couple of short stories.

I can't say I know too much about music. My son is a musician but I leave him play what he wishes.

From what I know people in bands do tend to lead a more glamorous lifestyle if they get lucky.

I wouldn't worry about not being a main character. I'm little more than a footnote in the canon my mundane takes me from. You could always be the main character in another story, like I am.
