My lady mundane,

[ a tight smile, not a happy one ]

Perhaps I've not been entirely honest. So, on my honor as a gentleman, let me rectify several misconceptions.

First — the books. The romances. Those things you would call "novels," what Jean's so fond of burying his nose in whenever he's not running around trying to save my life from largely imagined danger. Yes, they're sentimental garbage, quite excellent for turning your brain to mush, and you can strip them down to their bindings and not find a single shred of fact. You know this well.

But the ones Master Lynch wrote about Jean and I? I confess it, they're not so bad. That affair with the Grey King and his bloody Bondsmage? The Duke's Spider? Requin and that cocksucker of an Archon? Perfect, embarrassing truth, every single word. [ grimace ] I don't give a damn how elegant magic and poison are as forms of coercion, it's not pleasant being the one coerced.

[ pause ]

So, we come to the second point.

Where the fuck — did you get the idea that I liked being led around on a leash?

Please, point it out to me, my lady. When I said I wanted to go somewhere new, I didn't mean "being forced to go some gods-forsaken place surrounded by mist that can turn you inside out"!
