And if what I'm hearing in this head of yours is right, Mister Ryan's gonna need me just as much as the city will. I gotcha, I'll try to talk to him and it'll go in one ear and out the other -- but he's a mate, and as long as there's a chance to get through to him, I'm not gonna stand and let him watch his ship go down without someone at his side. That's just not how I work.

Bill stares a bit, then kind of laughs, except it's the kind of laugh you do when something's awful. He knows he's going to die, but you'll be surprised to hear that it's still not a fun thing to be confronted with. And on top of that, this turns Jack in Bill's estimations from 'bizarre stranger' into 'johnny citizen who'll probably have a short and nasty future'.

Now it's his turn to look a little ill. ]
