You’re sending me back to an island full of monsters and nightmares where basically everything wants to eat me or my soul, and somehow two years back home and a promotion is supposed to make it okay?

No, I am not excited about the umbrella monsters. What is with you and the umbrella monsters? Or did you forget about the time one of them kicked me off of a cliff?

I thought we had a good thing going here, mun. I was happy, you were happy. Now we’re back to monsters.

If you go, you'll at least be in costume, won't you? ( Not so happy after reading up on the game's page. Not so happy about umbrella monsters and cliffs and. . . well, let's face it, the fact that it's Stephanie who's hinting at going. It doesn't take a genius to realize: danger. )

All my gear, thank god. For all the good it'll do against some of these things. Last time there were giants worms we could only dent with explosives.

[ But then last time she had been so much younger, she had needed Batman's help just to survive. This time she'll be more prepared. ]

Karakasa can be rather troublesome, although kicking someone off a cliff is rather unusual for them...

It was mostly an accident. I think. It's hard to tell with them.

Surprise is their greatest asset. I wouldn't say it can't be intentional for that reason.

He was mad that I wouldn't play with him. [ And she was spelunking. Bad combo. ]

I mean, they're sorta cute in a really creepy way. It just doesn't make up for the rest of it.

You'll be given two years' experience. I'll go ahead and assume any research you could do in this space would be wasted when you enter the game. ( Of course, it's experience he's thankful she has right now. )

Not a trace. But I'll have my memories from last time, and if the library is still standing that should help. So I'm not starting totally from scratch.

Umbrella monsters!?

Yup. They're called Karakasa, and they're notorious troublemakers.

I guess a monster can be made of just about anything these days.

Apparently it's an Asian thing. Spirits possess household items, or something. Only on the island it was just the umbrellas.

And just when were you there before?

[ichoosefight]

So, uh, you remember that time when I was Robin for like, three months?

( --yeah.

Yeah, okay. )

You'll do better now. ( Basically. )

Yeah, definitely. [ She couldn't really do much worse, anyway. ]

Maybe this time around I'll be able to actually help other people, instead of just fighting for my life all the time.

Umbrella monsters? Okay, I think that beats hyena wasps and giant pillbugs in the weirdness department. I mean, umbrellas with legs.

Just one leg. And the tongue sticks out all over the place. Seriously, you should see the things. They're bizarre.

I'll take your word for it. I don't really want to meet an umbrella that could kick me off a cliff and drool on me at the same time.

Oh, no, it was one at a time. It had to walk away to kick out the wire I was hanging from. Not that there wasn't some drool involved.

Drooled on and then kicked off a cliff? Either way, I put that down as a bad day.

The cliff wasn't too high, was it?

No, not too high. And I was already halfway down. It still sucked, but I got back up okay. I think the crazy thing actually felt bad.

( "That should hold you out" just doesn't sound like something he should say aloud. ) It shouldn't be too long. Someone usually shows up to keep company. ( Even in Hell. )
