[ trying very, very hard to not be huffy, but- ]

Not to sound like a complete stick in the mud, but I hope you realize this is a perfectly horrible idea. Just because you have time doesn't mean that it will be best spent writing a biography of my life so far, then sending me into outer space. Honestly, just the idea of it- [ she stops herself before she starts sounding angry, because she's not, she's really not mad. it takes a lot to get Lily actually mad. but it's overwhelming! and she has Very Important Things to be looking forward to at home. like finishing her sixth year, and starting her seventh, and graduating, and a great number of things! ]

I obviously don't have any control over what you decide to do or not do, but I strongly suggest you put a little bit more thought into all of this.

Although I suppose an extended break from Potter- [ and Severus, if she's being honest, but she'll keep that to herself ] -and his abrasive advances wouldn't be completely horrible. [ SMIRK. ]

It's not as bad as it seems, honestly. I mean, being away from home is rather awful, yes, but all things considered, it could be far worse. And if I'm being selfish-- it'd be quite nice to have someone sensible on board as well.

Oooh, yes, it is rather nice to have a break from Potter. Very quiet, very peaceful--tranquil, even!--no advances, no one trying to smell your hair from a distance....

Though you haven't led a very interesting life, Evans, so at least the bit about your biography ought to be easy enough, eh?

I should hope you've made friends with people who are, at the very least, more mature than Potter and Black by now? Oh, Remus. [ THERE'S THAT TONE she always has when she's talking to Remus and inwardly going HOW DO YOU EVEN STAND THEM. ridiculous, arrogant man-children. it's not pity, it's barely contained bewilderment. ] It's just- we're so close to finishing out our time at Hogwarts, and I would rather not take an extended hiatus where I can't even continue to study properly on my own. We are, yes-- and there's all sorts of different magic there as well. It's fascinating, honestly; everyone's from other worlds, other times-- I mean, it's like a bizarre sort of cultural exchange. Besides, from what I've heard, time stops when we're away-- so we aren't even missing our studies.

It's pretty pointless trying to deny your bullying habits, seeing as I've witnessed it first hand. I'll agree on Gryffindor solidarity when you agree to use your talents for good, and not just pulling pranks. [ then again, Severus made his choice. made it long before James or Sirius took an interest in humiliating him. right? it's impossible to try and figure out, but here she is, constantly being reminded of the fact that she wants to try.

LUCKILY Sirius is good at flustering her out of those thoughts. ]

[Leaving all that talk about goodness and misunderstood pranks and actual bullying aside... Sirius raises an eyebrow at her, in a very good well-this-is-news-to-me expression.]

Things done in private, eh? Behind closed doors? [He smirks, and this eyebrow raising is much more suggestive.] Why, Evans, I had no idea you were that sort of girl. And James practically worships you as a saint. I don't know if he'll be thrilled or disappointed.

That is not what I meant and you know it. [ OH. HOW. RUDE. but then again; ] Although if that was what I meant, A) I'm sure the little cretin already knows all about it. Since he's most likely keeping tabs on me. And B) you should keep your thrill to a minimum, because the mere implication that something is going on behind closed doors is the closest you will ever get to that sort of detail about my life. [ so there ]

[Finding other werewolves, talking to people who don't seem fussed over his lycanthropy-- the thought makes him smile. But that smile soon fades as he realizes Lily doesn't know-- and she will, soon. But no sense in worrying about that now.]

You know, he's really not that bad. I know you think he is, but truly, he's a wonderful friend once you get to know him.

[ she has her suspicions, but no, she doesn't know. and she certainly doesn't think that's the reason for that smile - she always thought of the werewolf curse as just that; a curse. her chest twists up every time she thinks about the possibility of it being true, that he has to go through that every month...

BUT that's not happening right now, so. instead she's just kind of looking at him curiously, before he adds that second part and her face screws up almost comically ]

Ugh, Sirius. You have a much higher tolerance for his ridiculous behavior than I do. And don't even let me begin to try and explain how annoying it is, hearing about how charming he is from my dorm mates at the end of every day, it's like- [ ... probably the last thing Remus wants to hear ] -they have no taste at all, honestly. Except the occasional classmate that fancies you, of course. Those girls at least have some inkling of what to look for in a boy.

[ because see, Lily might not be one of Remus' closest friends, not in the strictest sense, but he's one of the few people she spends enough time with to notice what makes him tick, what makes him laugh. and she's also aware of the amount of attention James and Sirius get, the sort of talk that goes around. she would never bring attention to it, but she does notice how easily Remus slips into the background at those times, stepping away gracefully from the spotlight as opposed to inviting it in greedily like his friends do. so yes, she does make a point to compliment him when she can, the kind of comment that she'll say off-handedly, even if she is hoping to spur a reaction from him, or hoping maybe, eventually, the compliments will stick. and they're not empty comments either, never. she means what she says. even if sometimes she teases him in order to say it. ]

But as I said, he might be a wonderful friend for you, but we can hardly stand each other. [ not completely true, but she's spent so long defending Severus that it's been a slow process, trying to neutralize things with Sirius. plus he's fun to argue with, but nobody heard that. ] That's just the hand we've been dealt, I suppose.

[Despite himself, despite the fact he and Lily aren't the closest of friends and she can't possibly know how lonely and jealous he gets sometimes of James and Sirius, how she can't possibly know how awful it can occasionally be to be their friend and what that little compliment truly means-- despite all that, Remus smiles, his cheeks flushing happily.]

I suppose, yes. I'll simply suffer being mediator between the two of you.

[A beat.]

Er-- really, a classmate of yours?

Well, good luck with that. I'll try and cooperate, but I make no promises.

[ mhm mhm, no big deal, just stating the truth. and she knows because she understands. she's ..popular, sure, in some ways. well-liked. but there comes a certain stigma with being a Prefect, getting high marks, being a favorite of their professors. it practically puts this bubble up around her, sticks a big warning label across her forehead that reads LILY EVANS HATES FUN. or something along those lines. it gets lonely, being the responsible one. ]

Yes, really. Not that I can say who, but there is someone, certainly. It's a secret, you understand.

Considering we're in a spaceship millions of miles away from any of them, I think we can dispense with secrets, don't you?

Remus. [ GASP. so shocked! ]

Remind me not to indulge in telling you any of my secrets if that's the sort of attitude you have. A million miles doesn't negate trust, you know.

[He makes a face at her, mockingly annoyed (although he is curious now.]

Never telling you anything ever, nope. Well, not my own secrets, at least. [ her hands are on her hips, trying to look flippant ] Besides, Emmeline would murder me twice if she found out I- oh. [ maybe possibly let it slip on purpose ] No! Wait. [ her eyes get wide ] You can't say anything, you really can't, she'll-

Which! Doesn't make this any less of a secret than it is back home, so you can't say anything to her. ..Nothing that you wouldn't normally say, of course. Just act natural. If she happens to join us there, or if you find your way home again. Either one. Clear?

[He tries not to grin too brightly, his heart swelling a little. Just to know that anyone-- anyone-- fancies him is quite a confidence booster. And of course he could never have a relationship-- but still.]

I'm hardly Sirius, Lils, you can trust me not to go off and try to seduce her.

[ okay that makes her laugh ]

No! That isn't what I meant at all. Both times someone found out I fancied them without me telling them specifically, they started acting differently. Like they felt they needed make an effort to impress me, when I was already impressed, and it just made things incredibly awkward. It wasn't real anymore after that.

... I just mean-

Don't let on that you know anything, okay? It's better off just letting things move along naturally. [ hm ] Unless you would like to ask her out, in which case, I fully support the idea.
